I rate Malinga more than most but he is not stylistically comparable to Fullmer and not as successful so this is a moot point. Fullmer was a horrible stylist but very awkward. He dominated Webb pretty much, no mean feat. Did he just brawl with him? No, he made him lead, in the ugliest way imaginable admittedly but still, not as poor as you're making him out to be. He was a better fighter than Sugar Boy. The aesthetic quality of both is similar but Robinsons K.O was much more significant. Again, Roy Jones is my favourite fighter of all time and got me into boxing. Robinson remains the greater fighter regardless of that fact. Also, to address a few other posters; Jones absolutely had far superior defence to Robinson! Insane to suggest otherwise regardless of it being down to reflexes, what sorta' ****ing argument is that?! And I'd say Roy was a tad faster as well. Not much that I'd say he surpasses Robinson or anything. As I said; Roy would win a decision. But Robinson was far greater and sufficiently brilliant in his own regard that I consider him behind Jones as a 'talent'. Again, Roy is the best I've seen on film. Cannot see why others are finding it hard to find a middle ground here.
Honestly, I'm usually either in agreement with you or disagree but see your points... This one... well... I couldn't disagree more with what you said.
I like Leonard as a fighter better than Jones. And I like Ali, McCallum, Arguello, Sal Sanchez, Lopez and probably Kalambay better as fighters than Leonard. But Jones in his prime was more superior than any of them IMO. That's just what I see with my own eyes. Jones vs Leonard in terms of record? Hard. Leonard probably has the better set of top wins, but Jones never was really beaten in his prime (Griffin can hardly be said to have really beaten him) which Leonard was. By a naturally smaller fighter, albeit a truly great one.
Best I can do is take middleweight Jones on his terms. Therefore, he'd outweigh Robinson. That, coupled with his approach and ability, would see him avoid danger and win a comfortable 12 round decision. Robinson could catch him and spark him, and not because I consider Roy a frail fighter based on his later performances like some.
Robinson has the longevity, though. I like Robinson as number one, seeing his amazing achievements and how brilliant he looks on film. Suppose Greb and Armstrong have really good shouts as well, and some will perhaps say Langford, but going too deeply into that just hurts my head. :smoke
And Hank has the better P4P achievements. My top five consists of Greb, Armstrong, Robinson, Langford, Charles. The first four could all feasibly make no.1 on any given day.
Because I consider Basilio, Graham, Turner and Bratton all better than Fusari, Docusen and Doyle. Chuck Taylor didn't deserve a title shot, Gavilan made more defenses (before being screwed) and fought higher rated fighters too. Robinson's could be better... Only because of Gavilan himself. Talking title reign, not stay at the weight in whole or resume overall considering Robinson could've been champion a lot sooner. Just based on what actually happened.
