It be an interesting fight, that's for sure. If Gavilan gave Robinson trouble then SRL certainly would as well. I think the fight is a toss up.

Both Sugar Rays are tall welterweights Robinson is 5′ 11″ with a 72½″ reach. Leonard is 5′ 10″ with a reach of 74". I would say they are pretty much on even terms when it comes to size.

Neither of them has been in the ring with anyone who is better than the other.

Both have experance fighting other tall Welters with lots of skills.
Robinson fought and beat Kid Gavilan (twice) 5′ 10½/71″. Leonard fought and beat Wilfred Benitez 5′ 10″/ 70″ & Thomas Hearns 6′ 1″/ 78″.
Leonard had to overcome more to beat both Benitez and Hearns than Robinson had to over come to beat Gavlin.

If each boxer is going to have the above experance than:
Leonard is likely 31-1-0, 26 years old and boxing as a pro for 5 years.
Robinson is likely 100-1-2, 28 years old and boxing as a pro for 9 years.
These are both outstanding records for their ears.

I think the result comes down to this Leonard has beaten guys in Benitez and Hearns who at least on paper are better than him and/or have a size advantage. Robinson has not. This might not be fair due to Robinson's skill/tallents/abillities. However we know Leonard can overcome someone who is better than him. We have no idea if Robinson can.

The other factor is Leonard won't brawl. He learned his lesson from the first Duran fight. He has the skills and savvy to stay out of a brawl if one is imposed on him. If one is he will out box anyone. This includes Robinson.
If Robinson choses to box he's more skilled than Leonard and would likely win. However Robinson liked to mix it up. For the most part he can get away with this, but not against Leonard.

If we are going to pick who has the best skills/talents/abillities than I think you have to go with Robinson. However if you consider the above factors, Leonard has advantages of his own.

Except Jake LaMotta, right? Sure, he lost five out of six times, but he did beat Ray at 147. Both have one loss in their primes to great fighters. I'd say it's too close to call. Robinson may have the best resume in boxing, but that doesn't mean he'd beat every fighter out there.

Yes it does, What else can we go by,crystal balls?

Your resume contains all the attributes you bring to the table.

Robinson brings more to the table.

If you indeed are picking SRL to beat SRR then you my dear friends are in a huge minority.

The vast majority of boxing historians, analysts, trainers and boxers would give SRR the nod.

    But you guys know more.

I would pick Robinson to win this one, Leonard had all he could handle with Hearns and SRR is quicker and popped just as hard as the hitman. Lamotta on the other hand did prove the SRR could be beaten at WW

its called having an opinion. I mean u are basically saying u are basing ur own opinion on someone elses rather than thinkin for urself. I think leonard would have been an amazing and athletic freak in robinsons era. he was faster than anybody at that weight ever. I mean if u kan get ray in an actual boxing match rather than a slugfest u got a decent chance. especially if u are one of the greatest pure boxers the world has ever seen.
