So if the temperature hadn't been so extreme Robinson would have beaten Maxim easily and a fight with Marciano would have been considered?

My original post wasn't so ridiculous after all!

Maxim wasn't too easy to flatten.

I think Maxim was pacing himself because I remember watching the fight thinking 'How the hell did Maxim become world champion? He's doing practically nothing and doesn't seem capable of knocking anyone out let alone win a world title.'

But I think Robinson proved himself to be a far better fighter and under normal conditions would have beaten Maxim easily.

Maxim went the distance with Ezzard Charles five times. Charles went the distance with Marciano.

Maxim went the distance with Archie Moore three times. Moore knocked Marciano down and went 9 rounds with him.

Maxim went the distance with Jersey Joe Walcott three times, beating him once. Walcott knocked Marciano down and gave him the hardest fight of his career.

Robinson was a mile ahead on points against Maxim and only lost because of the extreme heat.

Marciano beat Don C ockell in 9 rounds. Randolph Turpin beat C ockell in 11 rounds.

Robinson beat Turpin in 10 rounds.

I don't think Marciano vs Robinson would be a massacre. As I said before I think Robinson would outbox Marciano until Rocky nails him.

P.S. I had to write Don C ockell because it was ****ell otherwise!!

Being ahead on points doesn't mean anything if you lose at the end. Also, Maxim had to deal with the same heat as Robinson, so as much as I like Robinson he lost to the better man.

    That's not even A=B=C fallacy... That's A=B=C=D=E=F=G fallacy...

Nope Robinson did all the leading and moving and was a mile in front, he just succumbed to the heat.Joey got a gift.

I don't think it's totally off base. I've read that SRR made more money than Rocky pursewise from fights. And if money comes into play, certain things tend to happen. Ray had a very slim shot, but if the change was right, he may have taken it. And again, Rocky may encourage it.

I don't remember Maxim having an air conditioner in his corner. If Robinson succumbed to the heat he still lost. Moore fought the much younger and bigger Nino Valdez in excruciating heat, but instead of succumbing to his opponent and the heat he used the sun and heat to his advantage. Moore would go to the body and always made sure his back was to the sun, so Valdez had the sun glaring into his face the whole fight and Moore was victorious. Robinson lost fair and square.

Id like a quid for every time Ive heard that old chest nut.
Anybody disputing Robinson lost fair and square?
Im disputing your statement that Maxim was the better man.He was the heavier man and moving him around took considerably more out of Ray than was expended by the static Maxim.

Do you just argue automatically, you know , just for the sake of it?
