In 1952 sugar ray Robinson beat joey maxim on a unanimous Dec. Despite fighting through dreadful conditions in a scorching hot ring Robinson clung on to the final bell. Robinson insists he's comfortable at the light heavy weight, his next challenge is from veteran fighter Archie Moore. With a large amount of ko s on his record how will Robinson do against this , probably his toughest competitor yet? Who are u putting money on?

Moore was a heavyweight slayer and ko many opponents over the 200 lb mark. Was a
strongman at LHW. Sugar was slick and near unbeatable at ww and vulnerable at mw
and definitely beatable at LHW. Similar to a Louis vs Conn fight where Moore stops
Sugar with big right hand and follows up with a barrage of punches in 14th round with
Moore ahead though on all cards at time of stoppage. Archie just too big and he
    is ATG at this weight.

Good answers and logic behind it. Do u think if Robinson had beaten maxim he would have stayed at the weight? Could he have been confident of beating other lght heavy s in the division? Moore and Robinson would have gone something similar to norris v meldrick Taylor., a smaller talented guy against a another talented harder punching one.

Robinson climbs off the canvas to win a close decision. I believe Moore as powerful and crafty as he was. He wasn`t a bull or a brawler like Basillio or especially Fullmer. Those guys took away Sugar Ray`s time and room. Archie was a stalker and a good counter puncher. I think Robinson would be in and out and control large pockets of the fight. SRR is gonna have a good advantage in speed and mobility. Archie probably hurts him and maybe puts him down but I don`t think he finishes him off. Ray had too many qualities of recovery, RING IQ etc.

Robinson wasn't considering staying at LH he wanted to retire after that win anyway. I think the purpose of that fight for him was to join the category of three weight champions. maxim didn't hit hard enough to trouble ray that's why he took him. Archie could hit and was very tricky and clever Robinson was the best at welterweight and certainly one of the best at MD but against a fully LH with great power and intelligence he falls short. it wouldn't be a blow out speed like Robinsons take time to get around but I have to take Archie by ko in 7 or 8th round
