Cotto was also badly weight drained and dehydrated. Had to fight in spurts. Since that time, his conditioning has improved along with his technical skills and defense. The fact that he showed less and less defensive vulnerabilities against better fighters than Malignaggi in Judah, Quintana, and Mosley lead me to this conclusion.

By the way, even if Mayweather does lose one day he's still the best fighter I've ever seen, and the fact that people would expect pefection from him when Robinson was far from perfect is an indication of how great the guy really is!! The standards that he is held to are insane. I don't think you guys realize how great you think he is.

I still want an answer to this. I want to know if you guys use Floyd's current performances over Judah/ODLH/JLC/Hatton to gauge how effective he would be in comparison to other past ATG fighters.

Since some of you persist to say that the quality fighters of the previous few decades...Forrest/Quartey/Trinidad/DLH/Mosley would pose no stylistic threat to him and even ignoring the clear cut fact in size difference... So In light of this, what the hell proof from Floyd's resume would give you the impression that he would beat some ATGs convincingly and compare him to Ray Robinson? If your infantile little minds can only come up with a response along the lines that "He hasn't lost yet" than I feel sorry for you because you shouldn't even be posting on a boxing forum, Because fact is you give some of the great fighters of the past few decades the resume that Floyd has (fighters that you all believe Floyd would beat easily) and they'd be 39-0 without a problem.

    so did i lol

but a pretty darn good list regardless...iv been reading this thread, i havent commented because i simply havent seen enough of SRR BUT! i am going to say that both southpaw and sweetpea raise some good points.....

This whole talk of comparing old fighters vs new fighters will always draw debate, and its always going to go round in circles...

Sweet pea u could argue that :
SRR fought better competition RELATIVE to that time period. Its too hard to say the blokes on this resume will beat the blokes on ur resume. Its irrational. you simply do not know and anything can happen in boxing. They are two completely different eras. Yes SRR did fight 200 times and 13 times in one month or whatever it was, but u have to take into fact that yes sum were bums. RJJ was able to defeat a bloke playing basketball on fight nite. that says something. Regardless of that though its still a goddam good achievement lol.

U say diet doesnt make much of a difference. Dude no disrespect but kmon dietitians and nutritionists make a massive difference. without them athletes will not be the shape they are in. And i bet PBF could go more than 15 rounds if he wanted too. Also training methods, techniques and skills surely have developed.

    Now Mr Southpaw your argument:
PBF is or is on par with SRR. In terms of skill set and ability yea you prob have a point. But unless he really steps up his competition over the next couple of years P4P you simply cannot put floyd above SRR. On the simple fact that SRR fought ALL comers. He left no what if's in his career, he stamped his authority! WHich is y everybody has the rite to rate him so highly. So if Floyd fought the best of this era at 147 i.e. marg, cotto, williams, cintron, mosley etc. then i think your argument would hold alot more substance. Until then its all in the air. He certainly has the ability to challenge SRR for that spot....Thing is does he have the will and desire!!! something SRR did have.

I can understand that we shouldn't think of any fighter as perfect and put them up on a pedestal where no one else can even come close to them, even a fighter like Robinson because no one is truly unbeatable or perfect, but I don't see the case for putting Floyd above Robinson p4p because he hasn't always tried to fight the very best guys out there, despite the fact that he is p4p the best fighter of this era and supposed to be so much better than everyone else. You can't say he's p4p better than the man recognized as the greatest welterweight of all time if he hasn't even faced the best welterweight of his own time. It's like the people who say Floyd would beat an all time great middleweight in Jake Lamotta when Floyd won't even face an ORDINARY middleweight today.

I don't know. Rumor is Blocky is one of the last true boxing analysts. His recent activity is proof enough for me to believe. :bart

malignaggi got his **** ruined. not one point during that fight was cotto in danger of losing and he was even clowning him at times.

paul fought tough and never stopped trying to win, but it wasn't enough.
