Again, the subject line of my thread was meant to draw attention to my thread and to allow me to make certain points. I'm not even dwelling on the knockdowns and that was not my main point in regards to comparing these fighters. The only thing I have to say about the knockdowns is that it is related to one of my points about the perception of him being this flawless fighter that no other modern fighter could match or eclipse in a historical sense. To answer your question he fought La Motta six times over the course of 9 years and was dropped more than once even before their first fight, but again I'm not even dwelling on the knockdowns.

If you're going to count the Judah fight, you can't count the Hernandez fight. Floyd punced El Famoso, hurt his had, and then his glove touched the canvas as he turned and tried to shake off the pain. The ref even said he shouldn't have called it a KD. Any way you look at it, Mayweather has only been down once.

Floyd has an underrated chin ... its hard to hit him flush ... he's fast as hell ... his defense is great ...

I'm not going to argue ... lets just agree to disagree ... I have a feeling that you guys aren't 80yrs old and haven't had the privelage to see SRR live ... and SRL & Hearns ... hasn't seen anything close to FLoyd.

Hearns had chin issues ... Leonard hadn't fought anyone between Benitez, Duran, Hagler, and Hearns ...

He was stopped by Hector Camacho ... so was Duran ... nough said ...

SRR fought better competition RELATIVE to that time period. Its too hard to say the blokes on this resume will beat the blokes on ur resume. Its irrational. you simply do not know and anything can happen in boxing. They are two completely different eras. Yes SRR did fight 200 times and 13 times in one month or whatever it was, but u have to take into fact that yes sum were bums. RJJ was able to defeat a bloke playing basketball on fight nite. that says something. Regardless of that though its still a goddam good achievement lol.

U say diet doesnt make much of a difference. Dude no disrespect but kmon dietitians and nutritionists make a massive difference. without them athletes will not be the shape they are in. And i bet PBF could go more than 15 rounds if he wanted too. Also training methods, techniques and skills surely have developed.

PBF is or is on par with SRR. In terms of skill set and ability yea you prob have a point. But unless he really steps up his competition over the next couple of years P4P you simply cannot put floyd above SRR. On the simple fact that SRR fought ALL comers. He left no what if's in his career, he stamped his authority! WHich is y everybody has the rite to rate him so highly. So if Floyd fought the best of this era at 147 i.e. marg, cotto, williams, cintron, mosley etc. then i think your argument would hold alot more substance. Until then its all in the air. He certainly has the ability to challenge SRR for that spot....Thing is does he have the will and desire!!! something SRR did have.

Robinson played the money game and risk/reward game just like Mayweather (and countless other fighters).

It's just that fighters got paid less then, and had to fight more, so Robinson ultimately faced a ton of quality fighters. But saying he took in all comers is false. Robinson still missed out on some of the top (black) fighters back then, even proclaiming himself "too pretty to fight Burley".

Floyd had problems with Oscars jab. Hearns jab would be coming from further out with the right hand following it. Floyd has never been in the ring with anyone near as powerful.

I guess Floyd didn't run into too many styles in his amateur and pro careers. I guess leading up the Olympics he saw all the same styles. Please, Floyd has fought everybody except Cotto who he will fight next year. Unless Margarito beats Cotto, should he fight him? He just lost to Williams. Bull****!! Ask Hatton if he has power. His power isn't that different than Leonard's was. Leonard hit Hearns a million times before he fell against the ropes, and Hearns did not exactly have a granite chin.

Leonard was great, but he didn't have the defense that Mayweather has. Also, in the rematch with Duran you saw what Leonard was able to do, what makes you think Mayweather couldn't have done the same thing? Even if Hearns was too big for Mayweather and would have beat him at 147 (questionable) so what!! Again, Barkley beat Hearns twice, did he go down as the better fighter?

No it doesn't close the arguement. Chavez went like 90-0 at one point, is he even in the top 10 P4P? Nobody is saying Robinson wasn't great, but he was far from perfect and a modern fighter like Mayweather who has won titles in 5 divisions and hasn't lost should be allowed to be mentioned along with him, and possibly above him. It's a different time, so the number of fights is not enough to end the arguement. I just can't understand why boxing is the only sport where people refuse to accept that the modern athletes are better than the old timers. It's really annoying!! Everything has improved.

No because times have changed ... fighters are getting paid more money and can find success alot easier than back in the day.

If Floyd or any fighter for that matter came up in that era they would have been fighting alot earlier and fighting alot more fights to get a title shot.

I can see Floyd being in the same light as SRR ...

Hagler at his peak was a Middleweight and Floyd at his peak is a WW and would be pushing it at SWW.

I don't think a fight could pan out between PBF and Hagler.

Floyd's best division was at 130. He was arguably at his peak at 135, 140 and even into his 147 lb. career
