There was a lot of talk about that possibility back then.

Probably just talk. I heard that Robinson considered Maxim a weak champ. Moore is another story. Maybe Robinson would have fought Moore but I doubt it. Robinson was a small middleweight. Moore was too big and too skilled. I don’t think it would have been much of a fight.

With all due respect, Floyd Patterson who was a very small fighter but had speed, he defeated Archie on Nov 30 1956 to win the vacant title, TKO 5. Patterson was asked years later about a bout against Robinson, he heard the rumors but just shrugged.

Patterson was a legit light heavyweight that eventually won the heavyweight title. He was much bigger than Robinson.

Well I don't give passes to Robinson for his losses to Turpin, LaMotta, Fullmer or Basilio. He was outhustled. So I don't know where you're going with this. Everyone has an excuse for a loss, but a legitimate excuse is another thing. And I believe this is one if we are actually trying to look for a definition.

Fair enough, so would you give Floyd Mayweather the same benefit of doubt if he had quit on his stool in the 11th round against Saul Alvarez because the stadium was too hot?

Was it? Did the Ref pass out 3 rounds earlier? I saw that fight and had it app. 8-4 in rounds for Mayweather from memory. I call them the way I see them. Do you have an agenda?

I gotta get something off my chest here, dude. I know a lot of people who jump into conversations they really know nothing about where their terminology is laid bare and they sort of look foolish when talking to people who really know their stuff on a subject. I, for one, enjoy soccer. I know enough to talk to a regular Joe, but I won't engage with a fan of the Premier League or La Liga because the moment I open my mouth they know I know Jack on the subject compared to them. I'm smart enough not to do that. So what I'm saying is, just from your reference of the Robinson Maxim fight and that "Oh what a lame excuse because of the lights" line that you used really perked my eyes up, as I'm sure it did with about half a dozen more posters here. You clearly knew nothing about a fight that has legendary status and meaning with well-read followers of the history of the game. Not to mention your reference that "All Mexicans in Robinson's era were used to fighting 15 rounds in the heat." (I'm paraphrasing here). So what I'm getting at is I won't deny you know your boxing in today's game and that you know more than the regular Joe. But when it comes to historical moments in boxing, your lack of knowledge is really apparent. The posters here on Classic are some of the most well-read historians on the subject. I would suggest next time you engage, study up on the subject first. I'm probably coming across harsh here, dude. And I do like your passion towards the sport.

Sorry, but where anywhere in your little manifesto did you disprove anything that I said regarding that fight?

Robinson lost, he quit on his stool, and boomers like you continue to give him a pass for it while at the same time failing to give Maxim any credit for the victory.
You can nit pick all you please about Mexico not having any title 15 round title fights in Robinsons day, and therefore I DKSAB but you still have no answer to that fact that plenty of lesser fights have lasted in extreme heat conditions and were either better prepared for it or just superior athletes, and anyone else that did quit on their stool in a hot fight should get a pass just like SRR.
It's people like you, who think you are elitist, all knowing gate keepers of the history of the sport that are constantly trying to push agendas on to the kids and it shouldn't be tolerated anymore

Dude, you got your feathers all ruffled. An elitist? Me? Really? I'm small potatoes compared to the historians on Classic. I just happened to be the guy who called you out on your lack of knowledge. It's probably time you head on back to the General Forum and leave us "all-knowing gate-keepers" to wallow in our history of the sport.
