As I recall, Ward thought he deserved the big fights, and rightly so.

He wanted the Froch rematch but Froch wasn't having it. Why fight Ward again when he could fight a nobody like Grove (x2) and earn 5x the money.
Then they tried a Kessler rematch but Kessler would only fight in Denmark and offered Ward peanuts.
I'm glad it didn't waste time with Dirrell. That would have been too much like what Golovkin is doing facing limited opponents.
Also, wasn't it during this same period when Ward started calling out and trying to make a fight with Little g, but K2 wasn't responding. :yep

 

The Ward-Barerra fight approaches so sometime just before then.
