Agree Disagree Both are absolute top tier As are Jacare and Romero Most stacked division in combat sports
A bit of an upset, but Rockhold has been rated pretty hardly by hardcores for quite sometime.... There was definitely a feeling in a lot of circles that this was one that could go either way, and also that the winner would go on to the rule the division with an iron fist for a long time to come.
Most objective people werent sold on Weidman and wanted to see how he'd do with a prime challenger before singin his praise with the Zuffa cheer squad. Its only an upset to those who thought Weidman was closing in on Silva's status as an all time great. The reality is for his entire championship reign he took advantage of guys who were either no longer interested in being champion, shopworn or shrunken by the lack of steroid therapy.
Not sure about that This clash is as hard as any to predict Weidman looked much smaller than usual. Could have to do with the IV ban? He's fighting against a huge guy like Luke but came in as small as ive ever seen him. Not good
You guys do realize Wideman stopped using his right hand in the second rd. He was basically a 1 armed fighter from the 3rd on up more than likely due to that high kick he blocked...
Rockhold won't have a staff infection and be on antibiotics in the rematch, so his gas tank should be much better.
lol at people knocking Weidman for this loss as if he's some sort of scrub. He's only lost one fight in his career to a very good fighter in Rockhold, his resume to this point is outstanding. Anderson got beat by a career LW and was stopped by a couple of journeymen in pride. He wasn't even the best Silva on his team. If Weidman competed in the ufc MW division a decade ago he would have reigned for years and years unchallenged. This is what happens when you fight a number of A level opponents, not preying on B and C level weaklings.
I'm confused at this post. Anderson Silva beat a MUCH better version of Vitor Belfort than Weidman did. And did so without almost getting starched. Anderson also DESTROYED Rich Franklin twice, when Rich was at his best, which is a very underrated accomplishment. Anderson also beat Henderson in a unification of the UFC/Pride Belts. This was before Henderson went on to beat Shogun and Fedor. He also beat Chael Sonnen twice. Who has gone on to become quite of a joke, but at the time was an extremely tough opponent who had ran through some very good fighters. Anderson also moved up and embarassed Forrest Griffin. Griffin is not P4P material by any means, but he was always a tough fight for anyone, and had wins over both Shogun and Rampage :deal I always find it odd that people think Anderson's resume is SO easy to discredit, when it isn't at all. Especially when comparing it to someone like Weidman atsch I'm a huge Weidman fan, but his time on top was made up of 2 bizarre fights with Anderson, a war with Machida (which i believe is his best win) that he almost lost, an annhilation of Vitor, and then getting absolutely DESTROYED by Rockhold in BOTH THEIR PRIMES.
A decade ago? lol. Weidman wouldn't beat a juiced up Belfort. lol. Weidman is good. Just came across a guy who was his size, who he couldn't take advantage of with his wrestling. His striking has always been mediocre to me. Prior to Rockhold, Weidman's best opponents were three older, smaller guys, who weren't wrestlers.
