I loved watching his fights on USA's TNF. The guy was limited but he was not short on action. I assume he still shares the compubox record for most punches thrown in one round. Any thoughts?
Yeah, those fights with Dominic Carter were full of action. Gannon looked like he was mixed with some kind of alien ******. Didn't he come from the toughman circuit???
Can't really remember. I've killed alot of brain cells since the TNF days. We need more fighters like he was:Balls to the walls.
I've got another toughguy for ya, "Jesse" James Hughes. Does anybody remember this guy? He was fighting in the early-mid 90's and was getting ready to challenge the likes of Tito and Sweat Pea. He would've been beaten by those guys, but he was the toughest of the tough. He ended up getting killed, and he was found dead on some railroad tracks in South Alabama. His dad's response to the murder was, "All I know is it took more than one guy to kill James."
Agreed! TNF rocked. They were excellent match-makers. They would showcase prospects and put them in with bums, but they also matched up bum vs. bum. Sorry if I come across wrong with bum, because all them guys would kick my ass.
Loved Gannon and Hughes. Where are those type of tough guys today??? JJH fought a great war with Adrian Stone. I remember that one very well. Tragic end to his life.
Yes, too bad he pulled out of the HBO fight with Golota. Golota fought Jesse Ferguson instead. That fight could've been great.
I loved TNF. I used to watch every week, wouldn't miss it. I remember when Louis Monoco knocked Buster Douglas clean OUT on TNF in one of Douglas's "comeback" fights. The decision was a DQ win for Douglas saying Monoco hit after the bell but that made my day when it happened. Also remember Hasim Rahman on ther when he was lean and had a great jab.
Yeah, I wonder the same thing sometimes. I think a lot of the fighters with similar backgrounds to those guys end up in MMA. I think of Charles "Krazyhorse" Bennett or even Alex Karalexis.
