rocky was a blown up welter who seemed protected by his management team(ie not fighting the best at the times there were)was he the real deal and a true champion, or just a one shot wonder who happenened to get three great fights out of zale of which he loses two? why didnt he step up and fight the black murderers rows fighters like lamotta(who beat most of them)? or robinson earlier in their carreers and a number of other tremendeous fighters of his era, before he got to zale?

A protected fighter does not take on the likes of Zale,
Robinson, Tony Janiro, Charley Fusari, Harold Green, Al "Bummy" Davis, and Freddie Red.

lost to zale 2 x ,lost to srr, lost to green 2x, drew 1x with janiro and barely stopped him (i personally dont think the ref should have stopped it) cought fusari(while losing the whole fight) for a late ko.cochrane and davis not top notchers(tough good fighters but not the cream of the crop) so what top guys was he beating to be so good?

I never really rated graziano that highly, he was a good puncher but gets slightly overrated IMO. I dont really give him any chance of winning against the murderers row and la motta would have destroyed him

graziano weighed 152 and servo weighed 144.5 graziano clearly had the edge. so what made the rock so special he didnt do anything spectacular except catch billy arnold who was kicking his ass and zale ,who beat him up 2xs. was he protected or for real?i just think he had a great right hand and was a tough son of a gun but he wasnt an atg fighter.

This was the arguement of being protected. If he WAS protected, he would not fight them, does NOT matter if he won or lost.

He almost definitely doesn't qualify as an all-time great, but he had charisma, he was game and he had a great right hand. For a few rounds, he'd be a threat to most.
    ATG? No. Legend? Hell yes.

Graziano was a tough fighter who was not protected, he dropped SRR in a wild winging exciting fight, he also fought Tony Zale. Being critisied for fighting Marty Servo would be like knocking Hopkins for fighting blown up Delahoya. or Oscar fighting Manny P...Graziano fought some some fighters like Harold Green and others and some of the better fighters of the day. Graziano had an open style lacking good defence it was a do or die style much like Iran Barkley but Graziano had great power in either hand despite his defensive flaws. He was full of courage and tough.

just checked out his record at box rec he had 83 bouts won 67 .33 of those wins were against opponents with losing records and i mean records like 3-34 1-21, 11-46 ,4-22 ,7-21,6-26,0-6, 4-27,5-21 and the list goes on(with records like that they are not top notchers). hardley sounds like he was fighting the cream of the crop sounds like he was protected and not fighting the quality fighters of his era like lamotta who had 102 fights and lost 19. he would fight anybody anytime.unlike graziano his opponents with losing records was only against 12 fighters with losing records. (hey its early give or take a few on both guys)i love the rock and was always wondering why he didnt take on the type of fighters lamotta did.and just want to klnow if he was kept away from certain fighters. in lamottas book jake states that he took out a lot of guys the rock didnt want to fight so he did.
