I'd say he has more or less stayed on schedule. He was always the kind of guy for whom winning a world title before it was all said and done was going to be a coin toss. There was certainly nothing about his junior successes or early going as a pro to suggest he was above the likes of Katsidis or Guerrero. Had he met (or should he yet meet) a particularly weak titlist he'd have capitalized. Right now 130 offers up: WBO: the winner of Broner vs. ?? (Ricky Burns? Eloy Perez? It remains to be seen...) IBF: Juan Carlos Salgado WBA: Takashi Uchiyama WBC: Takahiro Aoh I think the WBO or IBF are his best bets, with all due respect to those boxers. Either of the Japs would be tougher tasks for Escobedo, but maybe beatable within reason on a good night. I'm not sure which organization will propel him up their rankings after moving down and racking up one single win over Juarez. Rocky is currently not in the top 15 of the IBF, WBO or WBA - and isn't even top 40 to the tastes of the WBC (ouch :!. He's 41 Boxrec and hasn't come close to cracking the Ring top ten in who knows how long. This will definitely be the last stand, though. Beat Juarez, and get on with it. Busy schedule. Ranked opposition. Go go go.
Ew. Nobody who got whooped by that blockhead can be too promising. I see he's in with Adolfo Landeros, too. Good gatekeeper, better than his record. Hell, if this Carrera guy got badly beaten up by Abe Concepcion he might actually lose to Landeros.
Well, not when you put me on the spot like that! It's more of a hoped-for outcome (just to bookend Buckland's quest for that British title dating back to his first eliminator for it fifty months ago) in which I'm somewhat confident. Obviously you don't expect an exact repeat of events when someone is caught out cold in the first round. I just don't think Sykes has the ability of someone like a John Murray to comprehensively outclass Buckland over the distance while staying clear of his power.
The round 6 one, when Guerrero landed a peach of a left uppercut was fairly severe, but Escobedo recovered surprisingly well. It's all in here anyway: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COZAJTdkc7o[/ame]
:good Guerrero landed some BOMBS that night. Even with getting dropped heavily, Chente showed he's got one hell of a chin. Rocky would need to land a perfect shot to really get him in trouble...and to do that, Rocky would need to actually throw something purposefully.
The poll may be closed, but the vBookie thread will remain open until Solo Boxeo goes on-air at 11:30pm EST. :good http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=344742
It airs live* on Telefutura, and will not be viewable anywhere else to my knowledge. (*well, presumably. Last week they had some issues with delivering as advertised, and the Seth Mitchell vs. Hector Ferreyro card wound up being on like 45 minute or so tape delay behind the actual live broadcast carried on Fox Sports affiliates... They'd better not pull that crap again...)
:hey The only reason there wasn't one for the Bigger's Better VII" card in Lithuania this afternoon was the lack of certain plug-ins on the computer at the job-site they had me stationed at today. (It didn't seem prudent to ask IT to log in with admin privileges to allow me to slack off for 3-4 hours to watch and do RBR reports of boxing, let alone an obscure European heavyweight knockout elimination tournament that makes Prizefighter look like the Super Six in skill level...) Somehow it still shames me to have let everyone down.
