Was there ever a boxer who was handed more heart breaks, bad calls and controversial decisions? I was watching Pedroza II & Gomez to day! I remember thinking Rocky won the first fight as well, but have not located a copy as of yet? I scored both fights for Rocky, but could feasibly understand Pedroza getting the nod even though he didn't get mine (Although 147-142 surprised me). But I can only find 5 rds to give Gomez, possibly 6 (I had it 9-5-1). 2 controversial losses to Pedroza, 1 to Gomez...A MD loss to Chavez (although I had Chavez as well), 2 tough losses to Lopez (again I had Lopez)...anybody remember the horrendous shot he dropped the tiger with..not only did Tony impress me at getting back up, but finishing strong enoughto take the decision. Anyway 6 hard fought decisions all losses at least 4 of the 6 rendering some controversy. Is Lockridge the heartbreak kid..or just not good enough????
I heard that he has been homeless for years... Very, very sad to hear... He went through a bad divorce and started using cocaine heavily... Tremendous fighter in the days when a lot of these fights were shown on network television... I loved boxing all throughout the 1980's and Lockridge was sure something to watch.
The only robbery of his career was the Wilfredo Gomez fight. That said, the first Pedroza fight could have gone either way and the second one was pretty close too. Chavez and Lopez I think edged him clearly. If he at least got the Gomez fight, then he wouldn't have had much reason to feel hard done by, but overall now, yes, he did get shortchanged in his career.
