Tyson would eat Rocky, Mike could outbox or ko him, this wouldn't be competitive. A Non skilled mauler that's at a brutal size disadvantage would have no chance.
I'll mention also something interesting, take it for what you will, that in his autobiography Tyson said that Cus gave him specific instructions on how he would beat every hw champion of the past. Mike only reveals that Cus told him the way to beat Larry Holmes was with the 1-2, which Tyson actually KO'd Holmes with in the fourth round of their fight.
Yeah I like the Marciano vs Ward, Kovalev or maybe Jones Jr hypothetical matchups better. Those three would barely have to cut any weight and could meet Rocky at 185. I mean yes Rocky was a small heavyweight but are we gonna stick him in with 6’7” 248lb Vitali Klitschko next? Come on..
Ward and Kovalev aren't the same size as Marciano, since Ward at 175 isn't in the best of shape at the weight. Kovalev himself also could be in better shape. Marciano at around 190 was extremely lean, had to weigh in the same night, and would cut down from over 200lbs because of the 15 rounds fights back then. Just look at Marciano's legs, which were twice as thick as any current 175 or Cruiserweight I've seen. Also, If Chris Byrd could stop Vitali, Marciano destroys him. Vitali had great handspeed and stamina for a big man, but lacked the stopping power to keep a guy like Marciano off of him. Vitali hit Briggs with everything and couldn't stop him even though Briggs was gassed out. A prime Tyson or Marciano would've ended Briggs. 6'4"+ 220+ Heavyweights actually existed back in Marciano's days and had more mobility and skill than their modern day counterparts. The only reason Marciano didn't get a chance to defend against them was due to guys like Archie Moore, Jersey Joe, LaStarza, and Don Cockell beating most of the big men first. As far as Tyson vs. Marciano I would say 50/50. I'm not so sure even a prime Tyson can stop Marciano early, which he would need to. Prime Tyson was a very difficult opponent against big heavyweights, but was unproven in his prime against a smaller skilled and durable heavyweight like Marciano that could punch. The only fighter like Marciano that Tyson fought was Holyfield and Tyson got stopped.
Mike Tyson was beating down 6ft3 to 6ft6 220lb-250lbs with ease during his prime but would struggle with a 5ft9 185lbs midget? Ok(!)
That's because Tyson would have to punch down instead of up. Quawi, Hagler and Jake Matlala were both short stature powerhouse fighters able to get inside their oponnent's guard and enjoyed superior leverage by punching up. But i agree Marciano would have the same disadvantages vs Tyson as Tyson would have vs Foreman, because all these fighters would accept one to give one. To beat Tyson, he would have to go through hell. One thing going for him though would be Tyson's bully mentality; he was already getting frustrated in the very first rd of Holy 1 when being punched back. And Rocky would not need an invitation.
Punch DOWN? Mate he was one inch taller than Marciano. He would be eye level. You make its sound as if Anyway, you win. Marciano beats down Mike Tyson just because he was 49-0 and Mike was a bum who was a bully and always lost when people stood up to him right (Mitch Green, Botha, Ruddock, Smith, Tillis...)? Size, strength, power and skill do not come into this. Just another case of "my favourite fighter beats your fighter"
No, i believe Tyson is the clear favorite vs Marciano, just like Foreman's the clear favorite vs Mike. Marciano's defense wasn't good enough to trade with Mike. But it's not like he would have zero chances; in a 15 rds affair, his superior stamina coupled with Mike's weak mind could make for an interesting result should he survive the first 6 rds without too much damage. Mike's bread and butter was to bulldoze you with energy and power; his tank would get dryer by the rds. Ali once said the way to beat him is to let punch himself out then move in after 10 rds. (Unless you're a beast like Foreman)
Every chin has a limit. Prime Tyson would surely have pushed Marciano's past his. Just too big and too powerful. I've not nothing but respect for Rocky but I think he gets knocked cold in that fight.
