funny thing about boxing, Vicente Rondon was Ko'd by middleweights and light heavyweights but he went the distance with the alleged hardest hitting heavyweight ever, Earnie Shavers. Chris Byrd was durable and shifty against the big boys but worked his weight down to light-heavy and was starched. Roy Jones beat Johnny Ruiz but was flat KO'd in 2 by Tarver shortly after. James Toney was a 5'9 middleweight but stopped Evander Holyfield who later went the full route against Sultan Ibragimov, 7' 300lb Valuev (most thought E.V. won) and beat 6'5 240lb Lou Saverese and others. hard to tell what a few lbs one way or the other does for a guy and where the danger lies.
Totally agree. I am just saying that the method of picking Fighter A's worst performance for comparison to Fighter B's best is not very intellectually honest.
I agree, in fact I think A.P. has looked impressive in his last couple of fights (even Vlad) I think his training has been more serious and he looks to have improved. I dont know how he does against Wilder or how good Wilder will wind up to be but Alex is as good as the rest of the pack today and would be competitive in the past decades and era's and may even be a champ but as of now he is 2nd best to Vlad and I suspect the ATG's of the past
Rock was under orders to carry Kockel who had travelled across the world and to give the paying public an evenings entertainment for their hard earned dollar. Tyson - MacKneely type nights just wouldn't be accepted back then. When Rocky turned it on for the last two , Kockel wasn't taking it any longer. When Rocky wanted to end matters there and then , he simply did -ie Walcott II. Povetkin is in trouble ,if he comes at him- seek and destroy
Rocky Marciano and Joe Frazier are both very underrated in a head to head sense today. It isn't all your fault guys, because historically ratings have always reflected the dominant fighter of the day. What gets overlooked about the greats warmers, is that their, constant pressure style was very fail safe, against all but the greatest fighters. Between them this dynamic duo lost to Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. Louis, Ali, Liston, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Wlad all lost to significantly worse fighters. I think that it would take an exceptional fighter to beat Marciano, and that they would have to be either a devastating puncher, or a brilliant slickster to turn the trick. Povetkin likely just doesn't bring quite enough to the table.
Verification? Sure doesn't look like a carry job on film. I'm not sure Rocky would know how to carry someone.
Where is the last come forward, action heavyweight who shared Rocky's immense physical limitations (impishly short arms, slow, short, light, and horribly balanced)? Which championship heavyweight of the last 30 years was closest to him? And you wonder why he is underrated head to head...
A fighter like that comes along once in a blue moon. You get near misses from time to time, but a lot of variables have to converge, to produce a pure heavyweight swarmer that works. They must include an exceptional mindset, and an exceptional trainer.
That was half the history ago of Queensbury heavyweight boxing. How long should I hold my breath waiting for the next one?
How long have you waited for another Joe Louis to come along? It will happen eventually. Today it would look like a sort of improved Bert Cooper, perhaps with the mindset of an Evander Holyfield, and an inspired trainer who can really make a silk purse out of a sows ear. I don't know if we will even live to see this creature emerge, but we would know that we had seen him once the dust settled.
The underlined is total nonsense .Marciano stated that," my best punches didn't seem to affect him". Marciano butted C ****ll several times, hit him low several times ,hit him after the bell twice, and hit him when he was on the floor. He also demanded and got a postage stamp sized ring for the fight. The idea that he was carrying ****ell is absolute s**t. Any cursory viewing of the fight exposes this as utter rubbish. Was Marciano under orders to give the fans their money's worth when he stopped Walcott in the opening round of the rematch? You just have to be a troll , no one could write such tripe with a straight face.atsch
I read it in an article. I should have kept it. Rock didn't come alive till 8 and 9 round. Before that he just followed Kocklel around with minimal work rate. Its very evident watching it and very unlike him to punch so sporadically. It wasn't Rocky exclusively on the piece i read. Fighters were made carry guys so the paying public didn't get short changed. You never heard anything like that before?
Well, if you say so, that's good enough for me. Fans and practitionersof logic, the above is what is referred to as substantiation. Best to learn from a master.
