Exactly, Bokaj. Coincidentally, as of the time of typing this post, 49 people have voted in this thread. Only 1 of those 49 has Rocky in the top 2. Therefore, it's clear, that in the main, posters are rightfully factoring in more than which champion had the least losses.
I think I at times have had Holmes at nr 3, and his and Marciano's records are quite similar in that both broke through late and was undefeated at the age Rocky retired. Then you have to weigh in that Rocky's reign was shorter and with fewer defences, but almost exclusively against the best around, which you can't say for Holmes. And then is the question if you see Holmes wins and losses at the age when Rocky already was retired as a net negative or positive. For me Holmes comes out better on the whole here, but I can see the argument for the opposite. But that Louis had one (avenged) loss at an age when Rocky was years from facing that kind of opp and another two at an age when Rocky was retired, can not reasonably outweigh Louis's vastly longer dominance. That door is closed to me.
As someone who considers Louis a lock for the top 2, has Holmes #3 and Marciano #5, but sees little between them, I agree with every part of your post.
Im embarrassed to say I've never given much thought to how I rank those outsise my moveable feast 10 best, but Rocky has never made my ever changing top ten....
I really don’t see what point you are trying to make here? You’re saying if we pretend we don’t know who Rocky is then his stats mean nothing? But we do know who he is. He’s not some random clubfighter. Marciano is not just someone who just happens to put together 50-0 or better on the club circuit. He’s was the world heavyweight champion who so far is the only Heavyweight Champion to go through his entire career with a flawless unbeaten record. Everyone who follows boxing and who has a decent knowledge of heavyweight history would know this. The fact that the OP’s entire thread here is about enquiring about people’s view of his heavyweight ranking suggest that everyone here does know him.
Top post. Tho moderately complicated, it's just not rocket science. The highlighted is the guts of it. All wins aren't equal as i think most would realize.
Great post! I just like to add something (H2H topic): The famous formula "styles make fights" Fighter A loses to fighter B, and B loses to C but C loses to A... Frazier lost to Foreman but prime Frazier may beat Ali and Young... So who is better? And what is with fighter D, E, F etc... maybe it depends on their respective style... And what about daily form and luck? And who can calculate and predict all this ? It's a mess and subjective. Therefore, one should prefer reality.
Hi Buddy. Agree entirely, and in that order for me, the rest, Holmes, Lewis, Marciano, etc, is down to personal chioce. stay safe buddy, chat soon. Mike.
