He had a few fights in the UK during WW2 he fought the man who helped deliver me into this world a bloke by the name of Dr Jack Matthews at an RAF Base in St Athens near Cardiff Wales I once asked the good doctor over a pint what it was like to fight the great Rock and he said it was the toughest thing he ever done ( that coming from a man who had something like 30 Welsh Rugby and 3 British lions caps was for me testament indeed ) .

"It was a four-round contest and no winner was declared (draw)," recalled the now 88-year-old, a man famed for his bone-crunching tackles.

"I can't remember much about the fight, I don't think about it. It's just something I did.

Dr Jack Matthews held Rocky Marciano to a draw in South Wales in 1943
"I only fought a few fights. I didn't tell my parents because they didn't like me boxing. I don't know if many people know about it."

Marciano was also involved in a brawl at Swansea's Adelphi pub in Wind Street during his posting in Wales after an Australian taunted him for not drinking alcohol. Marciano subsequently knocked the aggressor out. Rocky said he was lucky he got him with one punch!
