If Rocky Marciano had been fighting in the 1980's, I think he would have been a good, but not too tough exercise for like a 12-0 prospect. Greg Page, Pinklon Thomas, James Tillis and many others could have benefitted from using him as a beat up tool in their first 12 fights or so.

Yea of little faith, W. Rocky was far more than he appeared. Like an iceberg: 9/10's below the surface.

He would have been a crusierweight. He would have been a great one too. He and Holyfield would have fought a war or two. I think Marciano would have come out on top. It would have kick started the crusierweight divison and made it an important division right away.

good post:good or he would've added 20 pounds of solid muscle and taken holy's place as the best heavy of the 90s, destroying giants and proving that will, and some skill, can take down the biggest the decade had to offer

Because he was such an exercise for young prospects like Roland LaStarza, Rex Layne, and Carmine Vingo, right?

agreed but holyfield was 147 when he graduated from high school and was 160 before the 84 olympics. had holyfield boxed in 1950s hed never grown bigger than 175.
marciano was a bigger man naturaly but boild down. he was already 200lb as a youth. in the 1960s marciano would be 205. in the 80s rock could be 210 thats about a 1lb more than holmes was when he beat norton.

Exactly right. Rocky was progressive in using weight training to develop his body for boxing, and there is absolutely no question that he would have been wreaking havoc among the super heavyweights of the modern era. (Think David Tua if you want a visual. Rocky was the same height.)

Throughout his youth, Rocky was looking for any information on exercise that would have been useful for building his strength, and he would have had a field day in this age with all the quality information and resources available.

At that time period Rocky would have been an ATG cruiser who would have fought one hell of a trilogy with Holyfield. He could also go up to heavyweight and achieve just as much as Holyfield did because he had every bit of will/courage as well as well schooled skills(not as noticeably polished as Holyfield's but still there) He only would have lost to ATG heavies like Holmes and the versions of Spinks that beat Holmes(I think Spinks could pull one out against him like he did against Qawi) He could beat Bowe like Holy did and give fits to Lennox Lewis like Mercer did provided he bulked his frame up enough to compete with a Super Heavyweight like Lewis(but not come in anymore than 210-215)

I don't understand why you guys respond to posts and trolls like this. Best for nobody to reply, it falls down the page and the thread starter disappears with his tail between his legs. Although ironically, I've bumped this thread writing this I know.

Like has already been mentioned, he would have been a cruiserweight. And again as aformentioned, he'd be a great one no doubt.

Holyfield's style was far more effective for a smaller man coming up than Marciano's would have been. I'm not sure how adding 20 lbs would have made him more effective. He fought at an optimal weight as is, adding to it would have only blunted his attributes.

I would take Marciano to beat Holyfield personally. What do others think?
