Rocky Marciano was champ for a reason, he is too good to get blown out by a shot Lewis. If Lewis just throws the kitchen sink at Marciano, Marciano will hit him with something brutal and get him to back off and respect him. Lewis wins it by playing it methodically and behind the jab, like how he was taught. I understand Lewis was pinning himself more than a heroin addict, but regardless of the advantage of steroids, Marciano is still an all time great in his absolute prime. This is not an easy night for Lewis.

Sit back and think about it for a second, Rocky Marciano was once unironically the strongest man on earth. No one else on planet earth would have beaten him in a fair fight. He is a freak of nature. If RJJ and Toney could find success in the heavyweight division of that era at their size, then Marciano's size would not be the primary issue here. It is literally just that he did not have drugs.

Weird how people are acting as if Lewis didn’t retire very near to his prime. He peaked quite late. Rahman II is considered by some the finest performance of his career, two fights prior to his retirement. If Lewis wasn’t in his prime against Klitschko (being out of shape is an altogether separate matter), he was pretty damn close to it.

mostly referencing him being out of shape and very awkward, he clearly did not train seriously for the fight

Oh yeah, head and shoulders above everyone. On the entire planet. Dude only had 49 fights in his entire career, and just about went 1-1 with Ted Lowry. But yeah... no one would of beaten him. :hang

Gotta love the 1950's American exceptionalism still going strong on the back of Rocky... A beacon for sports fans who think the sport hasn't evolved in the past 70 some odd years. Change is scary.

what are you yapping about, i said he was the strongest man on earth during his time

That ted lowry business happened when he was still unrefined and new with charlie goldman. Are you conveniently not remembering that he was heavyweight champion and one of the most dominant heavyweight champions ever

he was absolutely the most dangerous man on earth unarmed from the period of '51-'54 at the very least. He wouldve even beaten Mas Oyama

People seem to think he is weak for some reason. There were roughly 4 billion people on the planet and Marciano was the most powerful unarmed combatant of them all. It is a strange mindset to have, to think he or Louis or Dempsey get blown out of the water against even modern fighters when they are washed. Steroids do make the modern athletes superior, but that doesnt mean that someone at their worst just absolutely dominates a generational talent and work ethic in their absolute prime. It doesnt make sense.

I even favored Lewis here. Check my vote. I'm merely strongly against some stupid notion that a washed '03 Lewis would blow Marciano out of the water in the early rounds with no difficulty. That is like saying current Usain Bolt could not only randomly lace up the spikes now and beat a prime Jesse Owens, but also beat him by half a second and lead him the entire race. Its like, what??? Be sane.

I hope you wake up some day and don't feel the need to convince everyone within ear shot of this Marciano business with such dedicated... fervor.

It's ok for your favorite fighter to lose. Happens to just about all of them in fact.
