Rocky Marciano has a very good case for #1...

I know, but what did Marciano even do to deserve this? He gets hate even though he was such a good person... Can't they at least have a calm, nice discussion about how they think Marciano would lose to today's middleweight journeymen?

I guess thats too much to ask for

Not sure? For some it is just a lack of respect for the era (especially in modern is better circles).

I could see him rated # 1 (I certainly don’t), he never lost....hard to poke holes into that one. I could see him justified from 3-12 without hating or overrating.

Right now him and Holmes seem to have the most serious deractors. Not sure why?

I think Marciano was a fine young man who would only be lightly killed by the champions crowned after him.

Honestly I think Marciano is a #5-3 staple, but im fine with people who only put him in the top 10. GOAT status is a bit extreme, but thats their opinion ig.

As a Holmes detractor myself(?), I've seen alot of that too.

While i get the sarcasm behind that, I'm pretty sure even the harshest Marciano detractors thinks he beats guys like Leon, Ingo, Patterson, Stiverne, Ruiz, etc.

can you imagine Liston against Marciano in 1962? The heavyweights have just gotten bigger as the years have gone on. Someone mentioned in a post David Tua in the 1950s. Tua in my mind would demolish Marciano. Not from skill but how could Marciano avoid that left and back up Tua?

Dunno, one guy claimed he gets KOed in a round by any modern person over 200Ibs with a pro boxing license.

There's a wiki dedicated to terrible webcomics, and they say generally the shorter the page the worse the web comic, as it takes longer to explained way a not as bad webcomic is bad. The exception being a few shitshows involved in a load of controversies or something.

I am Holmes' most serious detractor, I have explained it, and will be happy to again.

    1. He ducked good fighters. Dokes, Page, and Thomas not on the record. No Witherspoon or Norton rematch.

    2. He OPENLY bragged about it. Said that he would only fight if they gave him guys he could beat. Bragged about fighting little guys.

    3. His actions hurt boxing in a way from which it has never recovered. Abandoning the WBC title and giving credibility to the IBF by picking up their garbage belt let to title proliferation.

    And, the most important one...

    4. These things were common knowledge and openly discussed in his time. It was only the romance of his 90's comeback that led to the cult of Holmes as we see it today, where defenses against Lorenzo Zannon and Marvis Frazier are seen as legit.

Holmes was a great fighter, but his actions as champion were shameful. We correctly call out Dempsey for not fighting Wills. Some even call out Marciano for not fighting Valdez. And yet Larry gets a pass for running away from multiple fighters and instead almost killing Marvis Frazier.

As you like. You are a good man and I don't mean to get into it with you, but I will keep repeating the truth.
