Marciano was there for the first Liston fight, and the first Patterson fight. Plus some other Ali fights I belive. Of couse he saw him fight.
SuzieQ49, I had seen Vingo fight before on our small tv screen before, and I thought he was a tough big right hand puncher..Vingo at 6ft.3,towered over Rocky during the introduction...When the bell rang for the first round, Vingo hit smallish Marciano with a powerful right uppercut, and the crowd thought that Marciano would be kod then, but this was no ordinary out of town "phenom ",we soon found out...Marciano survived that uppercut and proceeded to give Vingo that terrible beating...After the knockout they rushed Vingo to the Polyclinic Hospital, across the street from old MSG, thereby saving Vingo's life...Marciano was a BATTERING ram, wherever he hit you he hurt...Awkward but effective was Marciano, for sure...B.B.
What was the crowds reaction after the fight? Did they kinda of knew what danger Vingo was in after the knockout. Did the ref counted ten or was it a stop thing(Like the Louis Marciano fight)
In a fight with Marciano...Ali cannot take rounds off....fighters would have a fight plan against The Rock...but...putting it to use was another thing...Marciano made you fight his fight...his awkward style worked for him...you didn't know where the punches were coming from....he hurt you no matter where he hit you...and...Ali was not unhittable....he's in retreat all night long.....
why is it aways cuts?? Only in 2 fights was the Rock ever close in getting stop on cuts, sure he suffer a nick here or there, but the cuts were never bad to stop the fight. I think the fight has more of a shot of going the entire 15 rounds, than Marciano does in getting stop on cuts.
I don't know about that. That mean he will only beat him 1 out of 5 times. Rocky was a killer in rematches..I think out of five fights Ali would win 3 out of the 5 times.
So either people agree with you or they are less learned ? No question Rocky was a great fighter ...
INteresting to note how well Rocky spoke ... zero evidence I could hear of any form of punchiness ...
Marciano was his usual, classy self in this interview. I can't imagine anybody not liking Rocky as a person. There is a reason why is my main role model.
If they both came in 100% prime and prepared I would give Rocky the same 20% chance each time they fought.
This. I can't see any version of Ali being able to turn back the freakish bruiser that was Rocky Marciano. IMO, only the 1960's Ali, at the peak of his speed and elusivity, has a chance in this one.
