Rocky Marciano in the 1980s-90s - would he do better than Norris, Martin, Swindell?

To continue on a much discussed theme in recent threads.

Rocky Marciano, 5'10 and 186 pounds of greatness.

Let's have the truth. What would he do in the era of Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Moorer etc. ?

... not only how he would perform, but how would he look ?
Would he do well to stop training as he has, take a more up-to-date approach, get fat and bloated heavy and perhaps make some sort of career for himself by being a fat blown-up super-middle 'opponent' of the Everett "Big Foot" Martin type ?
Or even Frankie Swindell, another blown-up light-heavy ?
Or could he be better than that ? Like an Orlin Norris ?

I don't see Marciano being a significant factor in the heavyweight division in the 80's & 90's
He would beat all those you named though.

Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe, Tyson, Moorer ?

.... or Norris, Swindell, Martin ?

Do you think he'd do well to fatten up a bit for the era ? maybe the fat-boy shape would give him a better chance or becoming a decent 'opponent'.
He could be the "The Brockton BLOB", "the Italian Meatball"

    The latter three.
I think Marciano would have done well to stay exactly as he was
,otherwise he turns into a smaller version of Alex Leapai.

Yup, he stays as he was, grinds a lot if not most of the 80's guys out.

Possibly do as well or better than the 3 in the thread title, but the others you mention. A dogs, and NO chance.

The 12 rds maximum distance being introduced in the mid 80,s would have done Marciano no favours.imo

Which of these 80's guys do you pick him to beat by stoppage?
    Holmes
    Weaver
    Coetzee
    Dokes
    Page
    Smith
    Tucker
    Tubbs
    Ruddock
    Berbick
    Thomas
    Witherspoon
    M Spinks
    Tyson
    Douglas
    Holyfield
    Williams
    Tate
    Co*ney
    And the 90's?
    Bowe
    Lewis
    Mercer
    Foreman
    Bruno
    Briggs
    Tua
    Morrison
    Moorer

I'd make him favourite over Leon Spinks & Ossie Ocasio.:good

Marciano beats most of the fringe guys and maybe gets lucky against a top rater or two during that time frame. But I don't see him being lineal champion unless maybe he fights Michael Spinks in 1988 or Buster Douglas on a similar night like the one when he was woeful against Holyfield.

I think he 'd beat a few I named, but not become champion, at least not at heavyweight

Probably not. Unless he catches the right guy on his worst night and puts forth the best performance of his career. Beating the same faded version of Spinks who Tyson beat in 1988 isn't out of the question and certainly not the poor rendition of Douglas who fought Holy. Leon Spinks is another possibility though he he'd have to travel to the late 70's for that one. As for alpha fragments, the 1984 Coetzee who lost to Page or the deconditioned 1986 Tubbs who fought Spoon are potential wins. But honestly I don't see any 80's or 90's champions at the pinnacle losing to him.

If he stayed the same as he was, 186 pounds, they would make him fight at cruiserweight.
Possibly light-heavy, with early weigh-ins increasingly becoming the norm through the 1990s.

He'd take advantage of modern nutrition and bulk up to 230 or 240+.
They'd call him"the white Lionel Butler".

His best opponent would likely be a 189 lbs Evander, depending of course on what part of the decade you dropped him off in. Holy's stay at cruiser was short and mainly between 1985-88. Carlos Deleon, Dwight Qawi, Piet Crous, Ossie Ocasio, etc would likely be the 80's versions of Walcott, Charles, and Moore for Rocky..

He'd beat all the journeyman. I'd pick Rocky over Moorer, and he could beat Bowe or Holy on an off night. Rocky vs an old Foreman? I'd go with Rocky on points in a tough one.

I don't think he'd do well vs Lewis or Bowe at his best.

Marciano wouldn't get past Bowe or old Foreman's jab and, if he did he gets mangled. Marciano beats Moorer ? Based on the many south -paws he beat I suppose.:think
