    Let's hope it surprises.

Marciano was a custom built fighter. Awkward but affective. Goldman didn’t want him to lose the right hand power (guess Rocky had a hard time w a conventional stance who knows) so he devised a style that would allow him to compensate for his short stature and not lose power...Goldman for the record was an amazing trainer and most begged to be trained by him.

McGrain, who is very respected on here and elsewhere, has him as his no. 3. So not all hope is lost for Marciano and getting his due

He beat some great names, but that doesn't necissarly equate into great fighters. Charles was past his best and Walcott probably too. Moore was a great LHW, but only a good HW in the bigger scheme of things. A young Patterson took him apart easier than Rocky did just a year later.

To be fair that was an even more out of prime Moore and by his admission out of shape for that fight. He petitioned for a rematch but was never given one. Believe he called it his worst performance

He was a year older and would continue as LHW champion and HW contender for a long time. As for excuses of being out of shape, those are a dime a dozen. Means little to me.

I tend to agree with you...I don’t like the “i was out of shape excuse” but if you watch the film he looks sluggish and out of shape...his own fault

I rate Marciano no higher than number three. Ali and Joe Louis are streets ahead.

But this second group you talk of do not like me.

No, Patterson looks fast to me. Archie never did.

You can as well say he looked weak and short of stamina against Rocky, when it was rather Rocky who was strong and had near endless stamina.

If you think Archie Moore is slow I don’t know what to tell you lol. Watch some earlier fights against Davidson, Bivins, Johnson, Maxim. Doesn’t look slow at all...that’s the same Maxim that beat Patterson FYI that Archie dominated several times. There’s a reason why Moore was favorited and had they fought again it may have been different.

    Good little fighter.

A clinch for a Top 30 heavyweight... Legacy weighted, of course.

Totally defensible given the proper criteria. Try me.

Moore wasn't very fast. And he was slow compared to Patterson. That's so obvious that I don 't know why it's even discussed.

    ...lol.

And there's less reason to believe that a second fight with Floyd would have ended better for Archie than a second fight with Rocky.
