Rocky Marciano Movie (1999)

Louis was STILL a threat, even to Rocky Marciano in 51, as he gave Marciano a little bit of a boxing lesson in the first few rounds.

Lets not forget that Louis was beating top rank contenders.

This was not Ali vs Holmes type of thing who got the shot vs Holmes on name alone.

Louis if gotting past Marciano would have earn his title shot. In fact the contact did say the winner would go on and face the champion, right after this bout, of couse Rocky didnt get the title shot than, as he had Matthews and others to clear out. BUT Louis was still a threat. Now he was not the Louis of the 30's, but he was still a high risk to fight.

 

I was happy to see a great warrior like Rocky get a show but the television movie was flat out terrible.

 

Decent movie...

Tony LoBianco, a great character actor, who you may remember most from THE FRENCH CONNECTION, played Marciano in a '79 TV bio.

Anyone see it 'n have an opinion about the film 'n his portrayal?

 

never saw the 79 bio. I always wonder how true to the story or legend it was though.
Better than the 1999 movie? Did it have Rocky's rise to the title, retirement and death ?

Did it have the Rock's title rein that the movie lack.

 

I didn't think the movie was very good, and the guy who played Marciano didn't fight like him either.

 

I started to watch it a few months ago, it was on some obscure movie channel over here, got bored with it in the end

 

Yeah... I saw it yrs ago as a 12 year old kid.... At the time I loved it.... But now? I'd need to do a review to rate it once again fairly....

LoBianco played 'Carbo' in the newer film with Jon Favreau....

I thought was a pretty decnt flick overall.

Before I saw it< I thought casting Favreau as the Rock was insane. He'd made a living out of playing oudgy insecure losers (see Swingers). He was a lot better than I had expected, but still not right for the role. It was like casting Ben Kingsley as Jake LaMotta. However well he does, it's not going to be quite right.

 

Duva may have convinced himself of that over the years, H, but I was ringside in the Garden that night, and Rocky wasn't pettin' Joe; he was throwin' bombs.

 

Everyone was pullin' for Joe, H. Don't know what the odds were, but Joe was sure the sentimental favorite

 

Rocky was the underdog going in that fight, evey one though the Louis jab would carry the day.

The reporters said if Marciano won, it would have been by mistake.

I dont think Marciano was taking it easy on Louis, it was Louis useing whats left of his legs, and jab to outpoint Rocky, and Marciano digging in and landed body and head shots.

Louis was still a threat.
