Okay. One can make a strong case for rating Valdes above Cooper, but not above Machen or Folley. And it is interesting that Miteff who beat Valdes in 1958 did not even make the top ten that year. In 1959 he defeated Bethea, Carter, and Johnson. Miteff wasn't that much, but he might have been a better fighter than Valdes in 1958 and 1959. I think the reason Valdes was rated so highly is that they overrated the Carter victory. Time would prove that Carter just wasn't that good any more. Miteff blew him out in 2 in 1959.
I do own Henry Cooper-Joe Erskine III on film. I will try to upload that. If your a cooper fan, you will love it. Henry hits him with a left hook and Erskine falls back out cold on the bottom rope, with his whole body dangling from it. Possibly the most devastating one punch knockout I have ever seen. Where was this power in the first two fights? LOL
Upload it. I saw a film of that fight when I was in England in 1971 right after Cooper retired. Watched it in a hotel lobby with British fans. They really ooed and awed. By the way, why didn't you upload the Louis-Layne exhibition?
Speaking of Valdes-Carter, Here is Nino knocking him out in the 9th round This content is protected I am doing it right now. Honestly though, I am afraid of the criticism its going to get. Louis showed up way overweight at 230lb, and clearly was not trying his best to hurt layne. Layne was the aggresor, but never really seemed to open up at all till the end briefly. Kind of a dull fight. Nothing like Louis-Valentino.
I have a wonderful article on miteff from about 1961 in boxing ilistrated. he was tough and had all the tools. the guy was sold as the new firpo. he was a big draw but was matched too hard too early and his stock went down when a ko loss ended a good early run. he picked up bad cuts and scar tisue and settled for the role of opponent as he settled into married life but i liked the looks of him against ali. so many careers depend on timing and match making to bring the potential out. hed been a good amatuer in south america.
Well then. Perhaps you would respect the fact Williams knocked Miteff out, while Miteff was ranked in the top 10.
