That was frustration that caused Liston to quit. Reason being, like George Foreman ten years down the line,he was up against something he could n't quite grasp. Liston would never quit during a purely physical "you hit me and I hit you....see who can do it the hardest" type of scenario.

The whole "X didn't fight anybody" gets a little overblown after some time, I think. There are only really so many ATG level fighters and the chances you can put two at the peak of their powers against eachother for a championship fight is unlikely. You really can nitpick almost anybody. I read so much "Marciano didn't fight anybody", "Holmes didn't fight anybody", "Tyson didn't fight anybody".. "Frazier cherry picked", "Foreman's reign was too short", "Liston quit on his stool", "Lewis had a glass jaw", etc etc. Reasons they're all apparently terrible.

When I watch Rocky I am amazed at a number of things ... his tremendous strength stands out ... his trunk and legs were extremely strong .. he manages to get inside and bull guys around time and again ... he was simply a very strong S.O.B. ... It also ties in to what a smart fighter he was ... he knew how to use leverage to his advantage ... he used his height through his crouch to make it an asset .. punching down is not easy and on the inside he had most of the advantages ... his chin, heart and conditioning were all first rate and as far as power goes , pound for pound hie is among the tops in my book ... I don't see him matching up well with many bigger giys and never saw him fight a large mover with strength , power and a real jab but from what I saw he was one of the very best ever at 200 and under without question ...

The Rock had a great trainer in Charlie Goldman...Goldman was a top fighter in his day...he taught Rocky everything he knew...and then some.He said that he only had to tell Marciano something once...Marciano was a quick learner.Because of Rocky's size...5' 10...he showed him how to fight in a crouch and make himself a smaller target...they taught him the basics of leverage....BUT...they never messed with the right hand...dubbed the"Suzie Q"...with his power...heart...strength...conditioning..and his kill or be killed attitude I'd put him with anyone...

Marciano was one of the greatest ever, I would not argue if Louis or Ali was rated above him based on resume but Marciano is very undermined. His opponents were all very accomplished and conditioned at there very best when they fought him. Louis was past his best but still a powerful experienced ATG puncher. Walcott was still a slick and dangerous puncher. Charles was on a hot streak with 2 explosive KO's going into the Marciano fight and a solid plan to win back the title. Marciano fought 5 # 1 contenders out of 6 the other being the #2 contender. Amazing strength, subtle ring smart and a fighter who was developed to turn his size weakness into a strength. Rocky also had an amazing recoup power and stamina and could take you out with one punch. Another gift he had was the unorthodox punches that gave the best rhythm breakers hell.

Could possibly be the best, and may have beaten Ali,Louis and Dempsey in there primes I have always had him in my top 3

I have to admit it took my a while to appreciate the fighting man but he is one of my favorite fighters, probably my favorite

I agree that Ali would fight differently,... against Rocky, Ali wouldn't miss the fact that rope-a-dope tactics wouldn't tire out Marciano,... Rocky could pound away for 25 rounds without giving up, I really can't predict a result between "74 Ali and Marciano. Marciano is a fighter who we have no known limit or breaking point.... IT NEVER HAPPENED so we will never know what the antidote to Marciano was, anything else is PURE SPECULATION, I defend the Thread Author's right to an opinion made from video evidence, good on him for having his say.

........ That is a stupidly simplistic theory that has no basis in fact....... get over yourself, and keep race and nationality out of it...... or I'll sic Jethro from the "Beverly Hillbillies" on to you,... and if that fails,... I'll sic Granny on to ya.

I think Marciano is a great commentator, really informative,..... He's a member of the "Fancy" after all.

Fulton would have been but he got caught early. He did fight prime Tunney and Sharkey past his own prime and while neither were "big" they both were pretty good, in my opinion better than the Charles and Walcott Marciano fought but he did not fight an big, talented guy either ...

I'm very big on Ruby Bob too but you ain't being realistic here, there is no way that even Bob hit hard enough to stop Rocky,... no way, not that chin. Bob never fought at Rocky's frenetic pace,.. Fitz was a genius and a specimen but Rocky is simply unstoppable, Only the very big guys can stop him, and never with one punch, he must be beaten down in a machine like way,... I think Joe Louis in his prime can do that, but not say, Jack Johnson.------------------------- H2H against anyone near his size and weight, and you can almost forget science.
