Rocky Marciano Training Footage

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8RON1PtV_0

Some initial thoughts. Thoughts: Go to the 59-second mark for the heavy bag work.

Marciano can dent it, but I did not find him to be great bag power puncher on this film. He simply lacks the mass equation on force.

What impressed me is how he is able to generate force from short distances and the leverage he put into it. He's special in this department.

Other training observations. Rocky isn't smooth with his footwork, nor he is anything but average on the speed bag, however, he knew how to get into range and his duck and hook combo worked in the ring.

What's "rare" about it? It's been on YT for 2 or 3 years, was available on DVD for years before that and has had 100,000 views on the website.

Agree with you about the leverage point.

Marciano looks **** on the speed bag and **** at the rope.
He could certainly punch , but too many men went too many rounds with him to call him the one punch kayo artist you and others do.

Rex Layne and Joe Walcott disagree with you. They were one punch knockouts and darn good ones. Most of Rocky's stuff is not on film. If researched, I highly suspect there are more one punch KO's on his resume.

How many one punch knockouts did Dempsey have? Less than Rocky I bet.

This too many rounds businesses is not necessarily an indication of power. The defense style and mobility of his opponents had a lot to do with it in many cases.

Ummm, Rocky looks amazing on that speed bag. That is a world class performance on the bag. He's dynamic, has complete control of the bag while bobbing and weaving in rhythm. His accuracy and precision is pretty remarkable. He's throwing every punch you can, with the same precision most have while hitting the speed bag the normal way. He's alternating between power shots, light taps, while bobbing, weaving, and moving around the bag in different angles.

I guess this is why opinions here are so polar.

He had a 270 pound super heavybag specially made for him, kind of hard to make a 'dent'.

In the first Walcott fight, Rocky took away his legs and had him softened up. That set the stage for the final shot. Call it a one shot KO or not but he had in front of him a tired, softened up oldtimer who had just tried to finish Marciano two rounds before.

In the second fight, Walcott had simply retired long before he had entered the ring.

And he was nailing it with fast, powerful shots.

Wow man. Do you really think like this?

It's like saying "Boxer A only scored a KO because boxer B took a step forward too early."

How can you discredit his power, simply because he wore him down in a grueling fight before landing the final blow? Thats absurd, I know you don't think like that.

Pretty much every trainer has looked and studied that knockout. It's special and your wrong to diminish it.

Put it this way, Joe Louis needed a volley of shots to put Walcott out, Marciano just one big one. The photo and video footage is legendary stuff.
