Rocky Marciano v Bernard Hopkins ?

Hopkins has smoother muscles; indicative of modern training techniques.

A test was done in 2001 to see what would of happened had these two fought and the conclusion was that Marciano's archaic genetic structure would have melted as Hopkins' fermented with those modern proteins he had just swigged from his Met-Rx shaker.

 

Marciano via mid to late round KO. Hopkins might win a few rounds.

 

It would be pretty much like his fights against Charles.

Hopkins would have his moments but would lose in the end.

 

Rocky fought his best as a 'cruiserweight', Hopkins fought his best at MW, no way can Hopkins, a fine MW, can contend with a rise in three weights against a very good 'CW'. Even the best LHWs like Bob Foster got regularly beaten up by the best heavyweights.

No one ever really did that convincingly, they'd either get beaten up soonish (Bob Fitzsimmons) or have to cherrypick someone not particualry good (Roy Jones picking Ruiz).


Tbh why even ask this question and the Dempsey one, seems like you are wishing evil ways on poor old BHop lol. I mean, theres no doubt that Bhop could beat lots of heavyweight title contenders, and some weaker heavyweight champs, but putting him in the ring with good ones is only going to go one way. Its bit like in rugby - a great medium sized player is always going to lose to a merely good giant one.

Rocky KOs Hopkins. When? Whenever Marciano warms up and puts the pressure on. Hopkins doesn't have the punching ability of Charles, the power of Moore, or the muscle of Walcott to make things tough for Rocky, nor even the speed of a LaStarza to elude him.

 

Hopkins is too slick, long and athletic for Marciano. I think a stoppage here is a real possibility. Just a different level of fighter.

Despite Hopkins realising in terror that Rocky's punches really really hurt and upping his ratio of dirty shots in the hopes of slowing down Rocky, Marciano eventually bludgeons Bernard to a quivering mess.

 

this is very interesting because rocky was never a giant killer like dempsey was (jack had his struggles with guys his own size or smaller). rocky marciano was a beast against anyone who weighed similar to him.

did anyone meaningful ever prevent rocky from scoring a knockout?

this would be very tough for nard to survive.
