I think we have to respect Harry Greb. The kind of fighter he was, the level of seasoning and ring smarts of that class cannot be achieved again, it has to count for something in any era. If there was fighter that small and capable of neutralizing Rocky it would be Greb. But it would be silly to bank on him actually beating Rocky without seeing him fight. If it could be done Greb would be best equipped though. Greb has a real chance of going the distance. How can you rule him out?
I can't agree w you on this Burt. Rocky would hit him all over his body and break him apart. KO for Marciano. He was a bulldozer who just hit anywhere he could and hurt his opponants. Greb was special, but Marciano was also. Rocky knocks Greb OUT. IT WOULDN'T GO 6 RDS.
M, I didn't post that Greb would have beaten the much bigger Rocky Marciano especially in a silly 25 round bout....Not at all. I hate though when they have to HANDICAP the great middleweight Harry Greb in Fantasy fights against alltime great heavyweights... P.S. I saw first hand the sledgehammer power of Marciano's brutal punches "wherever" it landed against Carmine Vingo ringside and watching Rocky batter sparring mates from 3 feet from ringside..Like a battering ram...He broke blood vessels of Ezzard Charles's arms according to the referee Ruby Goldstein who told a group of us at a boxing seminar years ago..
Keep in mind that Harry Greb had incredible stamina, so it isn't a given that a bout scheduled for 25-rounds would be an advantage for Jack Dempsey or Rocky Marciano if either fighter was fighting Greb. - Chuck Johnston
True, the more we peruse Harry Greb's boxing career the more surreal it becomes...One thing for sure is that we will never see his likes again...And to remember that this "seven year itch" as an opponent described Greb fought the last 5 years or so blind in one eye....Think of the cujones he had entering the ring knowing one blow in his remaining eye could render him blind and defenseless ?
LOL in that case poor Harry is off in the ambulance and his doctors fear for his life........... sadly Harry died before reaching the hospital. LOL you may as well have given him five funnel web spider bites on his belly too, would have saved Rocky a sweat.
The deadliest man of all time, he could have taken on Alexander the Great and Julius Caesars armies... 100,000 in all with full weaponry and Harry still kills all 100,000 and Gaius and Alex with his bare hands, it took just two hours, Harry though did sport a black eye, accidentally headbutting a legionaires helmet.
I think to make it fair with Harry's handicaps imposed on him that you put Rockys legs in a cement filled bucket.... and oh yeah... have him facing the corner so Harry can hit Rocky from behind....... Rocky stays standing the whole 25 rounds though as his cement shoes keep him from falling as it's against the law of physics
I really think that this is a case where we can't say because we haven't seen Greb fight. I will, however make this case: if Marciano can land on Greb with any degree of consistency, he will knock him out late coming from behind on the scorecards. I don't see anybody on this earth taking Marciano's shots for 25 rounds and surviving. That said, Greb will be firing back of course. If he is able to (as some reports have put it, that he was extremely difficult to tag cleanly) flurry and evade successfully, then we will probably see one of the widest UD in the history of boxing. Compubox would break. I don't see Greb stopping him, though.
