It was always talked about, he confirmed it in interviews. His first trainer, Yancy Durham, also died, and while Futch was great trainer, he did not have influence Yancy did on Frazier.
People saying Frazier was more skilled, faster, or better on inside, must have Marciano mixed up with someone else. Marciano also hit harder with both hands.
This is pretty close to a tossup. Frazier is my favorite fighter but I don't know if he can beat a prime Marciano. Rocky hit so hard and was awkward but effective with his delivery of punches. Frazier is definitely going to land as well. One area Joe may have an advantage would be cuts. He could possibly bust Marciano`s face up. Then it would depend on what era they fought in and what kind of referee was there. Both guys have awesome stamina and heart. No advantage either way there. Frazier has 20 to 25lbs on Rocky but I don't know if he is stronger. It may be marginal.
I think Frazier would but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Joe had a pretty nice jab that he never got credit for. He was able to effectively use it with guys that were his height. Quarry ate Frazier`s jab a lot in their first fight. Ofcourse he would be hooking off of it and ripping his combinations. Which fighter could go to the body better in this matchup?
Good point. Frazier did have a good jab and I think he would put it to good use here. I can see Joe hooking off the jab to great effect against Rocky. To some degree Joe could could actually outbox Rocky before unloading his full arsenal. With his edge in speed this might be the determining factor in this fight.
Thanks. I read someplace, perhaps in an interview with Ken Norton, that he commented in 73 sparring session prior to the Foreman bout that Frazier did not seem the same. I have heard that Smokin' Joe suffered from out of control blood sugar. Frazier also referenced that his vision and shoulder were problematic.
Come one, Marciano never fought anyone that resembled a prime Smoking' Joe. Joe would knock Marciano out.
They were only 15 years apart, and almost every boxing person used to pick Marciano. Frazier got legend status from enormity of Ali fights, which were bigger event wise than fight wise.
