With all the recent talk about Ward moving up to heavyweight (which is laughable in my opinion) I though this might be a fun hypothetical matchup. Marciano was a very small heavyweight around 185-190lbs so size wise these two would be pretty close. Ward with the slight height and reach advantage and of course Rock with the strength and power advantage. I think Ward would box well in the early going and win some rounds but Rocky would eventually wear him out by his relentless pressure and blasting Ward anywhere he could before scoring the Walcott type kill shot somewhere before the 10th Thoughts? This fight would get ugly and dirty. Marciano stops Ward in the mid rounds. Marciano may be too small for a lot of the top HWs in history but he'd be a beast H2H at cruiserweight, whether it be 190 or 200.
One of the grittiest fighters in history will now how to deal with a fouler like Ward. He'd have Virgil throwing towel by 9 or 10
Figures you'd have a problem with this thread huh? Oh there are PLENTY of boxers who are alive and well that Ward would fall to but they've been covered in threads on here. Actually I could have done a Ward v.s ANY of the top HW's thread and it wouldn't have looked to good for Ward in the poll And that would include Wlad and Fury But I figured given Marciano's size and reach it might be a little more fair! Sorry the subject of this thread hurt your feeling homes Lol
This. Ward would get crushed by plenty of people on Marciano's resume let alone The Rock himself. Marciano is a better in fighter than Ward, has better stamina, and solid power. One of Marciano's opponents LaStarza makes Kovalev, who is Ward's best win at LH look like a novice.
I'm not exactly sure how Ward is supposed to win this fight. He is taller than Marciano and has longer reach, but then again Ward is taller than Mike Tyson and probably has about equivalent reach, also. We know Ward has little power, whereas Marciano has huge power. One stoppage win by Ward over a body-weak Kovalev, however, doesn't mean suddenly Ward has real power. Marciano was only dropped twice in his pro career. He won both fights by KO. This content is protected Ward fought the majority of his career at 168. Going up and facing a HW, even a small HW, who is a power puncher with a great chin isn't a recipe for success.
