kovalev is a powerful puncher no doubt, but look at rocky marciano. hes one of the biggest punchers ever. kovalev will be considered a top 10 lhw puncher, Marciano's KOs were bloody brutal.

Marciano would knock ward out, and he wouldn't cry like a baby after getting a low blow like kovalev and quit. His endurance strength and resilience would be too much I think

Glad to see 70votes and Marciano 87.1% of votes. This forum still have some sense of reality.

Ward is ducking the real competition at CW and HW. Marciano just trained and beat every man across him.size didn't matter. Also Marciano wanted to be baddest man on the planet(still in 50's if you wanted to be the MAN unanimous MVP. The route was to be heavyweight boxing champion.

Ward could not survive even Rocky sparring. Ward would cry if he had to train as gruely as Marciano.

Marciano would be a handful for anybody in history of boxing. No matter how big.

Marciano had iron chin, condition and toughness we never have seen. Hit with you bricks until your body breaks. Arms, chest, body, head just keep going. 15rounds hard work,at somepoint he can't take anymore.

if we measure toughness. Marciano could be GOAT.

Marciano went trough hell in numerous fights.

Think about it. Marciano with boxing ability? That would be scary ****. True terminator

Rocky wouldn't let the dirty tactics affect him. He'd embrace it, punch Ward in the balls, and then knock him out cold. Kovalev"s only weakness was not knowing how to fight dirty. A punch in the balls takes 5 minutes from which to recover properly. Kovalev took at least 2 before Ward's right hand and then more after.

Sometimes cultural factors such as religion play a part in such things. You know, like the religious teaching not to return evil for evil. One boxer might be more prone to easily ignore such a stipulation while another might be seriously hindered by it. For example, can we imagine Pacman doing as dirty as given in a fight after all his church attendance and preaching? He didn't do so in the Horn fight-that's for sure.

George Foreman, after his conversion and becoming a minster and return to the ring might not have been prone to indulge in such reprisals either.

    BTW
I find Boxing and Christianity incompatible.

Here is my guy feeling, Ward is a better fighter pound for pound, he is very athletic and he fights a boring but highly effective round by round winning style. He is patient and can beat others via making them expend MORE energy than he does. So well trained is Ward. That's just a few of the things he does so well.

Rocky however, well I think that Ward is too small. Yes he beat Kov, however, jumping to cruiser and beyond is harder than ever right now.

Heavy is huge right now. Plus cruiser is packed with more talent than in prior decades. Plus, plus, Ward isn't that big!!!

As soon as he looses a large portion of his ability to clinch against the bigger boys, well its a brand new fight for him, one where he suddenly finds himself getting unexpectedly tired from having to keep resisting the way bigger guy.

I don't see Ward knocking Rocky out. Not with body shots or head shots. Rocky could fight great even when being beat up temporarily. That was his shtick.

Thus, I have to go with Rocky over Ward.

Its not just Rocky, I think a few current cruiser weights would give Ward more than he could handle.

Rocky would just laugh if Ward did the nutkrusher on him, and shout "cmon hit me again! again!"

it will not end well for Andre anyway. Rock would knock the Irish genes outta Ward straight back to dublin

Never mind Rocky Marciano: Ward wouldn't get by Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles or Jersey Joe Walcott in fights made at 185-190. :sisi1

The guy was a fitness freak, always kept himself in shape, and routinely used to go on 20 mile hikes even when he wasn't in camp. No chance of Rocky fading the way Kovalev did, that's for sure.

This is essentially how he beat Walcott the first time around. At the finish, Walcott went to throw a right hand, but because Marciano had been pounding him all over, he could barely lift his right arm to properly throw the shot and as a result, Marciano beat him to the punch with his own destructive right hand.
