No he really wasn't, and if you think Marciano gets more shots on Toney than Peter your insane, of course with all due respect.

Marciano could average 85 punches per round, over the duration of a fifteen round fight, so it is a fairly safe bet that he would land more punches on Toney than Peter did.

 

fat sam would be some bum Marciano would ko on the way up towards going 10-0.

 

Peter through over 500 punches in the Klitchko fight ,Marciano record was about 700 ,you are also talking two weight class differance here . Who throws what numbers doesnt really matter its who lands more and does more damage . Wlad hit him with shots that Marciano simply couldn't replicate ,in short if this fight goes long like ANY other fight it does not favor the small man bc he is pushing around the larger man . Toney would be far to slick for Marciano to land anything and style wise is actually an easier fight and you cannot ignore Marciano height and 68 inch reach,did you see the lastarza fight? Toney would not only have the size advantage for once but he is now fighting a come forward plodder ,who doesnt set anything up with a jab ,do you think Toney will just stick his face out to hit?

 

Peter was just a big lump short on stamina and skill .rocky would move in close and hammer away at his head and body there's plenty to aim at I can just imagine Peter huffing and puffing after a few rnds as rocky starts battering his ribs and belly.Peter liked to fight at a slow pace he would get no rest in this fight he would run out of gas and take a terrible beating.He would end up looking like a stranded walrus lay on the canvas.

 

Most of the people that Marciano fought were slick boxers like Toney, and he always managed to outwork them, and overwhelm them with his pressure.

This is the type of fighter he specialised in beating.

This is what he was good at.

His success against this kind of fighter is the reason why he is regarded as an all-time great, while Peter ir remembered as a footnote.

What do you think would happen?

 

The counter argument (because many here are in need of one) is that Marciano struggled to an extent with very uninspiring physical specimens in Layne and certainly Cockell. If nothing else Peter brought reasonably groomed boxing skills (bronze Oly medal) in the package of a real bull. The lift numbers I used to hear coming from this guy were ridiculous. Call him fat for some of his performances, but at 235-240, he was in good shape and showed stamina to go along with power and a level of strength Marciano never had to contend with...

 

The fact that this thread exist show how delusional Rocky Marciano fans are. No matter how bad Peter was at heavyweight he was still a real heavyweight. Ted Lowry a 177 pound almost knocked Marciano out. Peter knocked out Marciano worse than he did Jeremy Williams.

This thread should be closed and anybody who makes another Rocky Marciano vs any modern sized heavyweight should be banned for life.

6 round sam doesn't have the stamina to do that.
