Peter was dropped 3 times by average puncher McCline. I doubt anyone could just shrug of Marcianos punches.
I agree that McCline was pretty ordinary in the punching department and not a terribly good fighter to begin with in any category. But in fairness he was also a monster of a human being at 6'6" and nearly 270 lbs. And Peter was trying to do to him what he basically does with anybody which is to over power them at close range. Under those circumstances, a smaller guy trying to batter a man that huge could always get decked, hurt, Ko'd, etc.. The one truth which can be said for Sam peter is that he wasn't a very intelligent fighter and nor did he always show up in good shape, hence some of his late career defeats to lesser men. But he was a very strong and physical force to be reckoned with and very tough at times. Marciano would beat him in my opinion.. But the fact stands that he didn't face too many guys who fit that description - who outmatched him physically and who had the balls and power to meet him in a slugfest in the middle of the ring. On paper this looks easy for Rocky, but in reality.........
You think Mcline of 6'6 265 pounds would be an average puncher if he connects compared to what Marciano would have to hit him? lol Mcline had a few fights where he hurt and dropped guys in fights he should have won . I knew Mcline we talked boxing a few times and he would have been a top guy ,the truth is he was more in it for the $$ the quick buck and he didnt have a mean bone in his body which was his lack of killer instict in the ring . However if you think bc huge Peter was dropped then the MUCH smaller Marciano does the same just like that ,well you are stretching it then . The Peter from 2004 to 2008 would be a handful for anyone under 200 pounds ,even if he was a slow plodder himself ,limited fighter you are talking about a guy who ate shots from both Klitchkos . Now you are putting what would be a light HW grinder in front of a thick powerhouse in Peter . The match up........ I think its not improbable Marciano COULD win . Its a more believable outcome than most of these old vs new match ups however Marciano s style of breaking down guys by just beating them up standing in front of them goeas against him here . Peter has looked outright bad in some fights particularly when hes grossly over 250 pounds ,but lets be real even if you think Marciano does win ,would you actually bet your house on it if this is such a mismatch? I like Marciano he has more passion and heart than almost anyone but i think that only goes so far ,i will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he lasts the distance but loses a one sided fight ,maybe he wins 4 rnds . Peter wins unanimous decision .
I don't think it would be an easy fight for either man ,but I believe Rocky is more proven a far as quality wins are concerned, there aren't many big names on Peter's winning ledger.
We have the measure of you, after your shameful departure on the Anchor Punch thread where you stridently screamed for sources and when they were provided, by me, then flip flopped and said there was nothing further to say on the subject. To paraphrase one of your most pompous self- regarding statements, I don't want to risk my credibility by engaging with a classless fraudulent jerk .
No there aren't and that's a very reasonable position to take. But there are some match ups where legacy does not necessarily dictate the outcome for me. While Peter's resume looks like fodder comparison to Marciano's, he brings a different type of game to the table. Rather than facing a Walcott or Charles who tried to outslick and avoid him, Rocky will be up against a man who takes the fight directly TO him and who has the size, power, and durability to make it a hellish experience.
Might I ask why you think McCline hit harder than Marciano? The fact that he was much bigger is not in itself enough to justify that position.
I'm not sold on the idea that Jameel McCline hit harder than Rocky Marciano, and certainly not on the premise of greater size alone. I do however think that he hit very hard. One of the reasons why his KO percentage appears to be somewhat low for a bigger man is that as one other poster put it, he was often non-aggressive. That and he wasn't a particularly skilled puncher along with often facing other men of comparable size. But the man could defintely crack and hard when he needed too. The other thing about boxing someone much bigger as in the case of Peter fighting McCline is that getting hit by a larger man can often thrown you off balance even if the actual impact of the punch isn't devastating.
Just remember to send that 50 $$$ you bet me on... Your credibility? lol your a top liar and fabricator on this forum, but guess the band will play on since you are a long time poster/poser that specializes in instigating when confronted with irrifitutable points he doesn't like.... lol.....
