So every fighter who moved up in weight was weight weakened and because he no longer was he became more resistant to punches?

I'm not even going there, I'll just add.:-(

That's ONE ,do you want all the opposite examples?

How do you explain Bob Foster destroying lhv's, but his punches bouncing off Ali,Frazier,Folley, and Terrell?

I have to wonder how many bigger men some of the posters on here have sparred/fought with?:patsch

Foster was a LT hwt not a hwt.

Again at lower weights 5 pounds can be important.

Comments concerning weight are generally confined to the hwt division. Here once you achieve say 190 pounds and have the technique you can ko any man at any weight. Just being a big hwt does not mean you hit harder than a smaller hwt. Being able to punch very hard is about speed and technique (being able to put ones body behind the punch). Not many possess this ability.

We're actually all be gosh-durn racists who wanna make real good shore that them darn boys keep pickin' cotton and stay out of boxin'. Yeehaw! Now, I sure do hope maw has washed mah sheet an' pointy hat an' Cletus is bringin' through the cross fer tonight's bonfire and barndance meet. :p

It's got nothing to do with the fact that Wilder is a 7 ft stringbean with questionable skills and a shaky chin who managed to run through a (mostly) god-awful list of fighters while actually getting floored by boxing prodigy Sconiers and ATG fat-man Nichols. Nevermind that Rocky is one of the hardest-hitting champions with relentless stamina who ground down every man he faced. Nossiree, nothing to do with that :think

Being weight weakened effects punch resistance. Fighters Tight at the weight go into the ring drained. It's well known.

You keep talking about being bigger and hitting harder ,I'm talking about being bigger and absorbing punches better, which is a universally accepted fact among people who have actually had gloves on/ taught boxing.

    Wow! I never knew that!

Is that your explanation for the increased punch resistance of every boxer that went up through the divisions ?

Why do you think a man has a better chin if he's wearing bigger pair of pants?

I certainly hope posters on here are not playing the race card. Choosing Rocky a known and deserving ATG fighter over an relatively unknown and untested hwt no matter how tall should be a "given". Once Wilder proves himself to be at Marcianos level or even close to his level then we will talk.

In which fights did he grind down Ted Lowry?
I'll agree he was a grinder,I've been saying it for 50 years!

No, my explanation is two fold.

#1, being from a smaller weight class they can better anticipate slower punches.

#2, they are stronger than before since they might have been weight drained at the lighter limit.

I've spent 30 years within NY/NJ gyms. Bigger alone does not mean you take a punch better.

More weight around your waistline makes your chin stronger? The mechanics of a being knocked out via blows to the chin are not effected by adding pounds to your body. Can you explain how weight causes the mechanics of a ko blow to the chin to change?

That's my post, put differently. Wilder's opposition is getting better. If he continues to do well against Szpilka and especially Povetkin, then I'll concede that he's the real deal.

In the meantime, Dustin Nichols wants his rematch :D
