Height and reach never really bothered Rocky. Rocky himself stated this prior to his death. When a tall fighter fights a great swarmer like Marciano reach can become a disadvantage once the bout becomes an inside game. Rocky was one of the very best getting inside and making an opponent fight his fight.
Did he ever face anyone who had a fast jab , striking out of an 83" reach? Moore =75" Walcott = 74" Charles =73" Louis = 76" An old Louis had no trouble finding him with the jab,Marciano said himself . "I just had to take them"
A jab is not beating Marciano. A great swarmer as Rocky was would not be bothered by a jab thrown by an amateur posing as a pro like Wilder.
I did not suggest that a jab alone would be sufficient to beat Marciano. How about it coupled with a right hand that has given Wilder a 97% ko record ?
I'd pick Duhaupas,Molina ,Stiverne,and possibly Scott to beat: C*ckell ,Lastarza,Vingo,Mathews,Beshore,Buonvino,Savold,and Reynolds.
Then you value size over results. Remember how impressed we were when Wlad beat Povetkin and Pulev back to back, both #1 ranked contenders? Marciano did that repeatedly. Wilder doesnt deserve to be picked over many of Marcianos victims at the moment. Unless you believe the hype, and are that gullible!
you make it sound way too easy for Rocky, plus you seem to dislike Wilder or rate him as garbage :think nobody in this thread is claiming he is a world beater, I understand a lot of Wilder fan boys claim he is unbeatable and that is annoying but there is no reason to go the other way and claim him as a total fraud. He is a difficult match up for most heavy weights, to claim otherwise seems silly to me :bbb
Wilder is not and never will be a great fighter. If a near 40 years old Moore can badly stun Marciano ,Wilder has a real shot at it too. I know what I see, a guy who has fast hands a telescopic reach , a very accurate jab, and a ko right hand. Trust me , anyone who says size is not a factor after a certain point has had a very limited experience of fighting men. Do you think Valuev would have been a champ if he was 6'2" 212lbs? I've never been impressed by Wlad or Pulev . Against Povetkin, Wlad was atrocious, he laid all over him all night.
I don't see Wilder as," oafish", and I believe if Moore can drop Marciano ,Wilder has a real chance of doing so ,you disagree that's fine. I'm not impressed by Wilder., but I am realistic about him facing a comparatively slow 5'10.5 " man whom he out weighs by 40lbs,out reaches by14inches and stands 8.5" taller than ,add to that Wilder has an excellent jab , top power and Marciano had suspect skin tissue.
