Walcott in particular represents why Marciano will struggle with this matchup from a stylistic standpoint imo. Walcott was boxing circles around Rocky until the KO. Usyk’s mobility, trickery and defense will pose those same problems, except on a greater scale since he’s 6’3, 220 lbs and still as fast. I just wonder if Rocky will even respect his power, or if Usyk’s durable enough to handle’s Rocky’s.
Usyk would clown him. Far too quick and skilled. Far too big and athletic. A plodder like Marciano is custom made for an easy night by Usyk.
Usyk is a hard night out for Marciano. Not only does he bring footwork that was basically useen in Marciano's day, but his tricky defensive style is coupled with a big size advantage. They would have been calling Usyk a giant back then. Marciano is unrivalled at wearing his opponents down but Usyk also appears to have insane stamina, similar to Rocky himself. Marciano would have to invest heavily into the body and hope that he could wear Usyk out by the late rounds. If he can't, the Cat is going to lump him up something horrible.
Oddly enough, Usyk's got a better chance at HW than CW, where the fight would actually be at unless Rocky had access to the right "supplements" to bulk himself up to 220 also.
Usyk all the way, Marciano’s best chance is to work over the body Usyks only real weakness but with his short arms and slow foot speed he would be hitting air most of the fight Expect a boxing masterclass from the Ukrainian
Usyk. Walcott and Charles would have beaten Marciano were they younger. Moore might have as well. 42 wasn't exactly the right age for a fighter, despite turning back the clock over and over again.
I once had a big argument that Marciano could beat the version of Lennox Lewis that fought Levi Billups. Come fight me.
You need to fight the great Seamus who seems to believe Rocky would struggle against any decent modern fighter.
Unfortunately I usually agree with the great Seamus about modern fighters often being better than their primeval forebears. The deal with Rocky is that he exceeds his physical limitations by his outrageous intangibles, such as dogged persistence, P4P power and endless stamina. I'd have picked at least 3 of his opponents to give him a proper boxing lesson and they ended up taking a (well deserved) nap instead. To be honest I think the combination of size and stamina that Usyk has, coupled with his skill and footwork, probably would see him give Marciano the ol what-for. Still, you just never bloody know.
At CW possible Marciano eventually wears him down over 15 rounds. Equalizing the weight makes Usyk's advantages less effective. At HW I can't see Rocky winning vs a bigger stronger more agile boxer.
Oh no, please, please, not again, can somebody please put a hold on all this Marciano nonsense? It is getting out of hand. In terms of Usyk let me reply: Marciano doesn't beat any 210+ pound heavyweight contender ranked after 1960 and up till now.
