He’d be a top fighter in any era, because he is simply fantastic. But he absolutely could not in any way, have dominated any era. Simply because there’d be too many different styles to have overcome. I don’t think ANY HW in history could have dominated any era. They would simply have all beaten each other at some point. Again, that’s the beauty of the sport.
Because he was talking about the magnitude and the challenge of the fight. He beat Fury and AJ both clearly. Yet he really struggled with Breidis. We know why that was.
Both fights were around 8-4 7-5 or so but Usyk said Fury was harder so I'll take him at his word over you.
Well of course you will. Because it’s more convenient. I don’t care what he’s said. It means nothing without knowing what context it’s been said in. None of it is relevant. We have the footage to watch. Now the first Fury fight was a very clear and easy win by him. As were the two wins over AJ. Yet we can clearly see that he BARELY beat Breidis at CW. And every knowledgeable fan knows why. Again, in your mind, it’s inconceivable that he’d lose to a 5’10 Tyson, on the grounds that he beat 2 SHW’s in AJ and Fury, who were much bigger. Yet Mike’s small size, along with his many great attributes, would have been absolute hell for a technician who had no power to have kept him off of him, and who’s shown vulnerabilities on the inside. A horrible fight for Usyk, and one that it very easy to predict. Keep watching. Hopefully, it’ll all make sense one day.
OK, so Usyk might have prevailed where they didn't. That doesn't mean that he is not going to have the same problems with Marciano.
The Briedis fight was much closer than the first Fury fight and, if not for the dodgy ref, Usyk would’ve KO’d/stopped Fury in round 9. The Briedis fight was also 6 years prior when Usyk was just 31 yo - since then, Usyk had clearly slowed down a bit by the time of the first Fury fight.
They were both about the same 7-5 8-4 for Usyk but Usyk has said Fury fight was his hardest fight so I'll take him at his word.
It wasn’t. It just suits you to say that it was though. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t make a difference does it. Because you would have no argument if I said that the Breidis fight was harder than either one of the AJ fights. You couldn’t deny that. So the point stands. Fighting a smaller CW, was harder for him than fighting a big SHW. And the reason for that, was the stylistic match up. It’s just that simple. Now if you really believe that Usyk would have dominated any HW era, then I suggest that you go and find a new sport to follow.
Fair, you can take Usyk’s word if you want but the Briedis fight was clearly much closer. The other context that I highlighted was that Usyk was that much older vs Fury than he was for Briedis. Quality of opposition notwithstanding, fights do gradually become that much tougher just for the facts of aging and accrued wear and tear. And, to all repeat, for all intents and purposes, Usyk had Fury stopped but was robbed of that stoppage and the alternative opportunity to land a fight ending KO shot(s) - which removes the analogy to the Briedis fight even further away. Additionally, prior to Fury finally agreeing to fight Usyk, Olek clearly stated that Fury had been ducking him for a good while - and many fans, myself included, believe that Fury was trying age Usyk out. Now do you also take Usyk for his word in so far as Fury deliberately ducking him for a good period of time? I’d imagine if you’re being consistent, you would take Olek’s word in that regard also.
Yeah probably Fury is very flaky and lets be honest fight probably wouldn't have happened if the Saudis didn't step in.
I’ve already told you that we can just change the fight. Breidis was harder than AJ. We know why. Also, don’t EVER question anyone else’s knowledge/experience, when you say things such as: “Usyk beat 2 SHW’s, so how could he lose to a guy smaller than himself?” I’d have been embarrassed to have asked my Grandad a question like that, even when I was just a little kid.
