Green kid who wasnt developed, he wona world title in his next fight beating Liston and was ranked number 1 in the world, olympic champion and was in his 19th fight. He might not have been at his absolute peak but he wasnt far from reaching it. Copper battered him in the first fight, its mostly one sided, he must get caught with about 30 left hooks, wobbled several times and dropped heavily. Second fight wasnt a walk through either, he done far better and was winning that one but Cooper still landed some good shots and made it a tough night. Lost both fights on cuts. Ali had a torrid night with Jones, certainly wasnt comfortable and could easily have went to Jones if Ali wasnt the name fighter. Maybes you misread me on Liston. I Said I dont no on Liston, will hve to think about it. I meant Im not sure how that fight goes down and would have to think about it more before coming to a conclusion, havent watched Liston for a long time so need refreshing.
Marciano would get exposed. His simple brawling style would not do well against the 70's fighters. His poorer conditioning regime (knee bends and running OMG) would also cause problems.
Good video to explain Rockys left hook somewhat and you can see this being a great weapon v Ali whonis very susceptable to the left hook: This content is protected Another video of Ali stating Marciano would be the most dangerous opponent he could fight: This content is protected
Ali did struggle with smaller faster heavies with good left hooks and this is 70's Ali we're talking about. I see Marciano giving him a tough fight but having said that I still think older Ali is better than anyone Marciano fought and his size, speed, movement at times, combined with his ability to tie up Marciano will see Ali come out on top, either by winning a decision or forcing a stoppage on cuts in a competitive fight. Foreman would manhandle Marciano much like he did Frazier, don't see Marciano going 3 rounds, hell might be lucky to make it out of the first round. Styles make fights and this style match up only ends up with one winner. Frazier in many ways I think was better than Marciano, bigger, better head movement, lighter on his feet, slightly faster hands, but from a style perspective it's not an easy fight as Marciano won't back down and I think his style is more suited to a similar sized, aggressive opponent, while Frazier' style was more suited to chasing down and chopping down bigger men with all that bobbing and weaving. 50/50 fight in my opinion, no obvious winner. Holmes, I see prime 70's Holmes being too much for Marciano, he never fought anyone with that combination of size, speed, movement and jab. Marciano will no doubt give a good account of himself by I see him unable to break Holmes down and he won't be able to pull off a Walcott like KO as Holmes ability to recover as proven by the Shavers knockdown was legendary. Holmes wins a clear UD.
100% agree. I even might add that Holmes might stop Marciano late on cuts like you mentioned Ali would.
