Yeah, doesn't make a lot of sense. Frazier was probably the best heavyweight ever at slipping jabs, with his bobbing head, and Ali beat him twice.
In the 1970’s Muhammad Ali faced George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, MAC Foster, Ron Lyle and Joe Frazier. When to your recollection was he ever stopped with a “ BIG punch “ ?
Marciano was more dynamic than Frazier. Less predictable. Two handed puncher. Better at finding a way. If it’s the Ali of the FOTC, I hate to say it but I think he barely loses. Even Ali said that Marciano was better than Frazier, when it really wasn’t in his best interest to do so. 60’s Ali beats Marciano, Frazier, Tyson, and Dempsey.
It would resemble the Quarry fights and that is not taking anything away from Jerry. If it's Ali of Zaire, forget how hard Marciano may be able to hit and think of the shots he would be absorbing himself. By the halfway Mark, Ali would be using his head as a speed ball. Mercy stoppage by the 10th.
I'd fancy a prime Ali over Marciano but older, slower Ali has his hands full with Rocky and he's going to have major problems dealing with Marciano on the inside all night. Marciano is without doubt fitter and more relentless and I think he hits harder too. The only thing that stops me from outright favouring Marciano is the question of how Rocky copes with Ali's holding, hugging and leaning. That sort of thing can really neutralize an inside fighter and there's a reason why a lot of the greats do it.
Yeah. And fan boys thinking. Dempsey wasn't recent Olympic Champion and his name was not in newspapers before he turned into a pro. 215 lbs in the same size as Ali prime Dempsey had did with him the same as Frazier during 3 fights, Foreman during 1 fight and Shavers during 1 fight in less than 10 rounds. Dempsey had nothing and he was piece of ash in the world and boxing turned him into respectable gentleman despite he had NOTHING besides this unlike champs from post WW2 era. He had put on Ali real lesson what is kid from hood vs middle class kid in the ring.
