Plain ignorance or inability to identify nuance really make people appear clueless about boxing sometimes.

Rocky was not the crude, guileless slugger lazy modernistas have painted him as. The commentaries from his Main Event series alone are ample enough evidence of his keen grasp of his sport's subtleties.

Except that Marciano could throw over a hundred a round, so Beterbiev could beat him to the punch and get hit by 2 or three more.

You dont think Rockys 43 KO's in 49 fights is a natural power puncher? Sure Beterbievs18 kos in 18 fights is impressive but really small potatoes compared to Rocky

I know it’s borderline sacrilege but I think Beterbiev has a good chance of blasting him out. Marciano was good at bobbing and riding with shots but he still tended to get hit squarely. A lot. It wasn’t like he was impossible to hurt either. He was in serious trouble against some guys that were even smaller and less powerful than Beterbiev.

Wow this would be a war. I'll pick Marciano but again like the Jones thread I'm not confident.

They're referring to rounds where he had guys hurt and was unleashing upon them. So not the best gauge of what his actual output would be with a fresh opponent in the ring.

He was most definitely predictable but he had great physical attributes. It helped that his best opponents were all on the wane physically and he made it a physical fight for them when they weren't comfortable with it. Artur is very comfortable in a physical, mauling fight, it's his preferred style after all. The overrating of Rocky continues. I swear all it'd have taken was Floyd Patterson destroying him for you guys to realise he wasn't as good as some like to make him out to be. He retired early for a reason, he knew the next generation of fighters were better than him and would beat him.

Marciano had a great chin but to act like he wasn't ever hurt is ridiculous. He was put down many times, definitely badly hurt on a few occasions. He was not throwing 120+ punches a round for more than one or two rounds in a fight at best, you're basing that claim on rounds where he was desperately unloading on hurt men trying to finish them.

    Beterbiev by KO late on.

As Bob Dylan once sang - The times are a-changing - and change generally evolves to being better than the past.

    Just the way life is.

    A banger of a fantasy match-up without a doubt.

I'm gonna keep it simple and go with Marciano via KO/TKO, not because I'm biased towards the older generation but purely because he's the more proven of the two IMO (not saying he wasn't prone to being dropped but his powers of recovery were top notch). I believe his chin holds up long enough for him to catch Artur flush with something Artur ain't getting up from.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised were the reverse to happen either, I'm no expert but I think the odds of this are just that little bit lower, low enough for me to lean towards Rocky 60/40.

One thing I'm 100% confident of though and that is this fight is not going the full 12, not in a million years.

Maybe he could beat up Beterbiev, it'd be a good fight. Destroy heavyweights? I doubt Rocky hears the bell for round three against Arslanbek Makhmudov much less Fury and such.

Beterbiev has had 18 contests and I don't rate any of them vs Marciano.
