Inside is where Beterbiev is best at. Monstrous physical strength and great, very short punches. Marciano is very strong himself, and tougher however. Slightly leaning towards Rocky, but Beterbiev is a live dog in this one.
Rocky Marciano beat me to it. However...........Rocky Marciano by murder. The mob was known for not touching Rocky's fights or him. They respected him too much and left him alone.
Love watching that Moore fight. When Archie went down for that last time, you could just see in his face that he’s thinking… “FFS… what the hell do I have to do to this guy to slow him down?!” Rocky by ref stoppage around 10 or 11 I think. Maybe even having to get up from a Knockdown himself. Prime Beterbiev is great no doubt. But he’s not beating Marciano.
I dont know who wins but Marciano did fight in a weak era and did beat aging fighters some of whom moved up from middleweight and although Marciano himself wasn't a big HW he was never a MW. It's hard to compare eras. People like Harry Grebb who windmilled punches and would lead off with a right hand from an orthodox stance was shocking at the time. A pioneer yes but hardly innovative in this day and age. Same as with Marciano, a legend and tough as old boots but had an extremely basic boxing style, it just was.
Agreed. As I see it, Marciano would absolutely be the favorite here. Marciano already defeated two light heavyweights each of whom was far more proven and far more skilled than Beterbiev, and not only were they more skilled and proven at 175, they also were more proven at heavyweight, with Archie winning 60-something fights at the weight, and Ezzard having been a former heavyweight champion who made 8 consecutive title defenses. I'm not claiming a Beterbiev victory is impossible, because with the new weigh-in rules and whatnot, plus Beterbiev being an absolute powerhouse, it's certainly plausible. But I would need to see a great deal more from Beterbiev before I'd be inclined to favor him against a powerhouse in his own right like Rocky.
I'd wager to say that Beterbiev is at his optimal weight otherwise he would've moved up to cruiserweight to prove otherwise.
He is at his optimal weight: 185-190. Which is why he cuts to LHW. At HW neither man has to worry about making weight, so it's an even contest on those grounds at least.
Beterbiev is facing men like himself, who are cutting weight. Now they may be rehydrating to 180-190+ but many times they will be weaker than someone who doesn't cut as much weight. How Beterbiev reacts to being hit by a puncher at full strength we'll probably never know as he is content to stay where he's at.
