Rocky Marciano vs Audley Harrison

This isn't a wind up.

I was reading the Rocky vs Vitali thread and a lot of people (Seamus in particular) were dismissing Rocky's chances simply because of the size disparity alone.

You know the drill "Rocky would need to stand on stepladder to land a punch etc".Well what about if you put Rocky in the ring with Audley Harrison?

Harrison is a big (6"5 250 pound+) heavyweight with a strong amateur background and some success as a pro (though a huge underachiever).He also enjoys a massive height,reach and weight advantage over Marciano, which if you listen to some people is pretty much all it would take to beat him.

Personally I reckon Marciano would batter him inside of 3 rounds.Harrison despite his size and some ability isn't and never was a natural "fighter".

Marciano although awkward and not naturally talented was a born fighter.He had that innate ability to find a way to win,was never intimidated,would rather die than quit and could and did remorselessly dispense hurt on his opposition with no hestitation inside the ring.This was an anathema to someone like Audley.

Anyway do you think the little man from the bygone era wins or is bigger definately better?

audley might grow some balls and be dominant here as the size differrence is so big , but even if he he did when the rock lands some punches to audley's body i think the fight would leave audley's heart and after audley moves round the ring for a bit and then begins holding and lying on his opponent in an attempt to tire rocky and is warned numerous times for holding and told to fight , for me rocky wins this one but it would be a very ugly fight. but then audley is a giant compared to rocky so i must be wrong

I can respect the reasons why some people might pick Wladamir Klitschko over Rocky Marciano, but if you pick Audley Harrison over him then you might as well find another sport to watch.

I frankly think that some of the fighters Harrisons size who Rocky Marciano actualy fought would probably have been too much for him!

But you can see that's why I posted this.

People make way too much of this size thing imo.

Fair enough a Klitschko may beat Rocky due partly to size but it takes more than just that to beat a machine like Marciano.Size is handy but you also need buckets of courage,skill heart and most importantly endurance and not many have all that in one package.

It sells Marciano way short if you reckon he loses just because he has to crane his neck to look someone in the eye.

i think that it is simply ridiculous to compare 250 pounds of heavybag with 240 pounds of very good boxer with skill,stamina,heart, great hitting power and great chin. a great small man beats a big bum or a big average boxer.
a very good big man beats a great small man.
the rocky fans can talk on 100 threads but i think vitali klitschko would beat marciano

Harrison would talk a brilliant fight,saying that he'd have have Godzilla and the Incredible Hulk fighting Marciano alongside him. After the first bell rings,Marciano would hit Audley with three punches,and Fraudley would hit the canvas. After the fight,Harrison would say "I totally defied Rocky,as he could n't knock me down untill he threw three punches"
