so, a 30 year old and assumedly prime, B-Hop who is fighting the Steve Frank's and Joe Lipsey's of the world and getting repeatedly KD'ed by all time great Segundo Mercado at 160 will beat arguably the best head to head sub 200 pound fighter in the history of the game? And this guy is supposed to be cuter than a Walcott or Charles?

Who the **** are you people? Have you ever broken tape on Marciano or read anything beyond what the General Forum of some shitass website has to say about him? Like perhaps a book with the quotes and estimations of his contemporaries?

    This thread is an embarrassment.

...And who exactly did he duck?

From "i will never let a white boy beat me", Hopkins would go to "Mister White Man, please don't kill me!!!!"

Rocky was chubby guy who boiled down to 185/190 where he looked in middleweight shape to me. Hopkins in his early 30's was a natural 170 guy making 160. In similar shape Rocky is 20 to 25 pounds heavier.

Rocky's stamina kill his oppentents not his power. He fought technically excellent boxer punchers who were natural light heavyweights in most cases e.g. ring weight 178, rehydrated 183. Old light heavies passed their best but still at least par as title contenders for his reign. Actually Archie Moore was the stand out challenger of his reign. unfortunately he needed to be 10 years younger and a lot faster to survive.
Not sure Rocky would have beaten Charles and Walcott five years earlier.

Anyway Hopkins needs to fight at his pace to beat somebody like Rocky. Not cat in hells chance of that. Only one outcome ko for Rocky.

The old versions of Archie Moore and Charles would have been interesting. Walcott would have koed Hopkins to.

    Amen to that.

When I post on here about these dream fights I try to anayse as best I can and give a constructive for and against argument for each man. I've thought about this match and I've come to the conclusion that such an extensive analysis isn't really necessary -Marciano would absolutely smash the **** out of Hopkins...all the smarts in the world don't help when the other guy is just too physically strong to allow those smarts to become a factor, can physically throw you around like a rag doll, and EVERY punch he hits you with sickens you to your stomach.

Marciano by kayo, and the earlier it happened the better for Hopkins, because if it took 7-8 rounds he would be physically ruined, never the same fighter again.

P.S. the above is the first time I've sworn on this forum, I wouldn't noramally, but sometimes people spout such garbage (people who've never had the gloves on I suspect, people whose only experience of bxing is from the safety of their armchair), that sometimes no other language seems to get the point across!!!

Forget about Rocky. Hopkins would be hard pressed to defeat either Archie Moore or Ezzard Charles.

    I don't think Rocky is making 180.

At any rate, unlike Moore or Charles, Hopkins is a very physcial spoiler under pressure and while he muscled men like Trindad, De La Hoya, Calzaghe, Taylor, and Pavlik around on the inside, he would be **** out of luck against a physically powerful heavyweight like Marciano. Even with a decent size advantage, Walcott couldn't even bully the Rock in the clinch.

Hopkins is a better all around fighter and better defensively than Walcott and Charles. And he wouldn't have to try and bully Marciano on the inside, he would counter punch, use lateral movement to countdown on Marciano's punchout put, and take away Marciano best strength's like he always does. He'd also be a lot quicker than Marciano. If it goes the distance, Hopkins wins this fight in dominating fashion, if there's a knockout, than I'd take Marciano.

I see this one kinda like Louis vs Conn but ending much sooner. I'll give Hopkins the respect of his skillset and he could out-box and counter Marciano for the early rounds. It would only be a matter of time though, before Marciano closes the gap, pounds Bernard to the body and stops him around 8 or 9.
