It was Marciano's quoted opinion that Lowry would have gone the distance with him every time. Was Lowry as durable ,and skilled as Byrd? Marciano fought in an era that was dominated by past prime boxers imo. That of course was not his fault , he could only beat who was around and he did.
But Mac Faster was 6'2", punched in combination, countered and used jabs off the front foot, maybe hit has hard as Joe Louis, he was in prime heavier and all, maybe he had a better chin too. Mac Foster had as much resemblance to Joe Louis as Tua has to Marciano. Superficial. It can be a valid stylistic facsimile but that's not what your statement was. Your statement was if Byrd can beat Tua, he can beat Marciano. Your comparison is invalid. Tua was not a relentless come forward banger, he spent 12 rounds pawing at Byrd's out stretched glove, biting on feints, shelling up, letting himself get bossed by a guy 20 pounds lighter, refusing to let his hands go against a man that never knocked out a quality heavyweight, giving up yet another title opportunity in his long beltless career without much of a fuss. You would compare this to a man that walked through anything Walcott could throw to get the hard earned win?
On what planet does this gun shy plodder getting bossed around the ring by a much lighter man fight anything like Marciano? This content is protected Yeah, they are both 5'10 and had short arms, so they had to come forward and land on the inside...okay.
This is incorrect . Mac Foster never stopped a quality heavyweight Louis ko'd champions. He was faster, more versatile and light years more proven. I never said that. The rest of your post falls because your original objection to mine is misguided.
I have never been a fan of the logic that you can take a 15 round fight, and the situation at the end of round 12 is the result had it been a 12 round fight. You have to at least tell the fighters that it is scheduled for 12 rounds.
Indeed. Tua and Foster's knockout victims are more comparable. Zora Folley, Thad Spencer, and declined Big Cat sit comfortably with John Ruiz and declined Moorer. Unless you're really high on his illegal knock out of Rahman...and want to blow that up to something it wasn't. Well the cop out is yours to take.
I would normally agree with this stance but I have one question for you regarding this particular fight. What, in your opinion could Rocky have done better, more effectively/efficiently had the fight been over 12 rounds that he did not do in their actual 15 rounder, what adjustments could he have made to ensure victory over the abbreviated distance? I ask this because, having watched the fight many times,Marciano seems to me to be going flat out and fighting as hard as he possibly could from round one! I would add that he performed like this in every fight of his that I have seen.So what would have been his other options IYO?
I was comparing Fosters victims to Louis's, not Tua's ,you made the comparison I didn't.Im not copping out of anything, neither am I arguing semantics for the sake of it. Bye.
Sure you destroyed me with your irrefutable logic. A man to be feared! Go rent an argument elsewhere.
Apparently I really did destroy you. You know very well the point I made and have spent your last three posts doing anything but address it, you want to walk away and leave it, but you got too much ego tied into this and have too keep mumbling excuses out of the side of your mouth as you retreat. I'll do one better, I'll walk away, so your ego don't get bruised.
In the second Charles fight, after he realises that the fight might get stopped due to his nose injury, he really turns the threshing machine on. I think that I am right in saying that he threw 120 punches in the last round. What was desperation in that fight might have become a logical tactical option late in a 12 rounder?
He could've increased his pace and punch output. He could've taken more chances. This hypothetical 12 rounder should err on the side of the 15 round winner. But when it comes to Rocky being bad, somehow "he'll find a way!"
