Byrd was so poised and smart in the ring. Honestly I think his biggest asset was his mind. Cus said "When you can get hit and remain calm, that's when you're a fighter." Byrd got hit by some killers, and I'm always impressed at how he rarely let it break him down mentally. He remains very sharp, and under control. It's indescribable how hard that is to do, and can't really be compared to any other skills in other sports.
Rock like another Brockton Massachusetts great took immense pride in being champ. Both were famous for coming back to ko their opponents when there fights were about to be stopped on cuts. Rock against Charles ( split nostril ) and Hagler ( cut on forehead ) . This brought out the best and championship qualities in both in taking the decision out of the referee and ring doctor and knocking out their opponent.
Byrd survives for a little bit then Marciano goes in for the kill. Marciano wins every rd up until the ko.
Marciano brutally KO'd Walcott. He brutally KO'd Charles too. That fight was pretty one-sided. To be fair to Charles he probably hadn't recovered from the beating Marciano had given him a couple of months earlier. You can talk about the nose injury all day long (and ironically, "nose split in two" is part of the well-worn Marciano lore "myth" that you pretend to be combatting) but it's more or less irrelevant.
After the half way stage yes he did.Marciano ruined him as he did,Vingo, Layne,Charles, and Cockell. Only Moore was still relevant after facing Rocky.
If you are seriously using the LaStarza fight to give Byrd a chance here, maybe you should look deeper into the LaStarza fight instead of posing your own weird theory about Rocky doing everything he could from the opening bell. I don't think that has ever happened in any fight. How about change strategy sooner? "I changed my style of fighting in the seventh round," Marciano said after the fight. "I was behind ... So instead of throwing my right so much I concentrated on hooks and combination punches." Being it was a 15 round fight, he realized what he was doing was not working before the half way point and changed strategy successfully. In a 10 or 12 round fight, he just does this sooner. Case closed.
I'm aware of Marciano's quote and the way he fought in the second Lastarza fight its plastered all over Box rec! what that has to do with the first Walcott fight I don't see. You seem to have made me your personal mission,I don't know whether to be flattered or bored. Just keep patting yourself on the back for the non -existant points you think you are scoring.lol. Just out of curiosity, who were you last time you were here?
When you say this "I would add that he performed like this in every fight of his that I have seen." Does it even matter which fight you are discussing?
He performed at the same pace, in the same style in every fight of his that I have seen and I bought my first collection of his fights in the mid 60's. Show me a fight in which he altered his style or pace? Watch the Lastarza fight and point out the difference in Marciano's style or pace in the first 5rds from the next 6. This petty little vendetta on your part began, because I said Tua was the nearest facsimile to Marciano that Byrd fought and I reiterate that now. I didn't catch your answer to my question.Who were you,the last time you were here? Mongoose, Frankel or another ********?
I'm actually not sure ,I think he got a temporary ban over myself and was so outraged that I didn't, that he basically said f*ck you to the Forum. His style though was strikingly similar to Kentucky whateverhisnameis.
Pretty sure Mongoose was the one that did the ban-bet with Dino, that Dino welched on. That's gotta count for something!
