A battle between two of the division's best right hand punchers. Walls at 6'3 200b with fast hands, high intelligence, and a big right hand punch, vs the 5'11 185lb Brockton Blockbuster with immense Strength, inhumane stamina, and a suzy Q right hand. Walls was a boxer-Puncher while rocky was a crouching Slugger/Swarmer. I expect fireworks. Marciano is the big favorite here, but how do you see this fight going?
This would have had some action, Walls had some good KO's over contenders but was also KO'd in 1 by Abel Cestac and lost to Jimmy Slade, He lost to Edgardo Romero in 54 and drew with James Parker in 55, most of these men beaten by Archie Moore. Still I think it would have been an action fight before Walls falls
Yeah I reckon he would definately have got Rock's attention with some of his heavy guns but if he lost to Jimmy Slade (no disrespect to him, but still) then the likelihood is that he wouldn't be able to cope with a fighter of Rocky Marciano's magnitude - might take Rock 5 or 6 to find the mark with one of his suzieQ's but he would find Walls chin and when he did I'd assume it would be curtains - but without seeing the guy in action I can't really comment because I might be doing him a disservice as sometimes just looking at someones record can be very deceaving - the guy would be looking to fight life and death if he was challenging for the title so he might provide some uncomfortable moments for Rock?
walls had talent but was unlucky geting matched the way he did, maybe earl blew a couple of oppertunitys when he stepped up because he was matched harder early on, maybe he just got found out. marciano had talent but developed into his full potential because was matched well, learned, stayed focused and passed all the tests when he was stepped up . By the time marciano was champ he was in the zone. even great fighters who were still cleaning out the division couldnt beat him. Earl was a worthy dangerman but he didnt get past guys with marcianos tools and the fans knew it. I dont think it could have sold.
