Or the mythical Earnie Shavers that exists on Classic who stopped ATG Jimmy Young and prime iron-chinned Kenny Norton?

I was thinking it would be more one sided in favor of Rocky Marciano. Didn't Shavers in his prime get outslugged in 1 round by Jerry Quarry? You think Quarry is on a level of a Rocky Marciano.

I also think in this fight, Marciano has the huge edge in durability and stamina.

Marciano had the chin and the power to take Shavers out of there.

I understand the sniffing and riding of Marciano's dead ball-sack, because, I sniff and ride the sacks of "Ali, Holmes and V.K." But, having said this, Marciano's 49-0-0 (43) KO's record is overrated by sight and deceiving, etc... Marciano was set perfect for his era of 1947-1956... He was the man then... But I don't think he'd do well with many post 1960 champions and some contenders...

Nonetheless, Ernesto Shavers was more lemon than paydirt---especially in his big and important fights... I love Ol' Ernesto, but, he'd prolly find a way to get TKO'd after round 6 against Marciano... Shavers' blow-out loss to Quarry in '73 was wicked, but also flukish too...

Well Shavers had more pop in his roundhouse bombs. ROcky had short powerful punches when he threw those. Rocky def had better stamina. If Rock gets by the first few Rds, he'd be favored.

Shavers had paralysing power and would definately hit Rock as everyone else did, however Rocky found a way to win 43 times and would do the same here.

Of course it would make sense to bet on Rocky. But it is not out of the question that Earnie could win. He's bigger, and Rocky was never hit by a guy like Shavers in his career, IMO. To be safe, one should bet on Marciano, but I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Earnie get to him. Both guys could be slow and sloppy, so anything could happen.

Well, Going into that fight in Dec. '73 the thinking was Shavers was rising and Quarry was falling. Shavers was dumb, reckless and over zealous in his attack, and he paid for his mistakes dearly... Quarry scored a mild upset there... BUT! Had they fought again in a rematch in '74, I doubt Quarry would stop Shavers in round 1.... Quarry shook-up the division with that win, but it was short-lived, since Quarry would be TKO'd again by Frazier in June '74....

Also, despite the KO loss to Quarry, Ernesto Shavers would go on and have a lengthy career of respectable success, where as Quarry was done after Norton '75 and Zanon a couple years later.... Screw Quarry's 1980s comeback bull****... Not-worth-standing....

    That's all I'm saying, dude.....:bbb:good:deal

I pick Shavers. Rocky also would have had a hard time had he stuck around and had to fight Floyd Patterson and then later Liston. I suspect he could beat Floyd, but not Liston.

I'm not even sure '56 Marciano could beat 21 year old Patty.... Patty had shaky whiskers, but in '56 he was fast as lightning and full of **** and vinegar... I think Marciano plods, stalks Patty of '56, but is too slow to catch him and loses on points...
