Like I said, I just don't see how those guys can hang with him past the fifth round .. my issues w Rocky were his having to basically give up twenty five to forty five pounds against much bigger men ... I just don't feel it plays into his strengths of his own strength, stamina and two handed power ... however, let's say he fought today at a ripped (with weights and modern tech) 195 or so ... how are these guys going to keep him off ?

I don't think Marciano had some of the flashier great skills of some guys but he had his own great skill set ... his defense was actually pretty good. When he did get hit his chin and recooperative powers were tremendous ... watch the Walcott and Moore fights ... both guys were tremendous punchers at that weight and other than the semi-flash knockdowns, they both really broke their hands trying to hurt the guy .. anyway today I see him having little trouble with the guys you mentioned as long as his skin holds up and he does not suffer a freak cut .. at that weight he was too strong, too well conditioned, hit too hard and basically too good.

Marciano should KO SHavers but Shavers has the ultimate punchers chance against nearly anyone and Rocky did get hit

Shavers could hit...sure....but Marciano had heart...conditioning...stamina...chin...a "kill or be killed" attitude"....and The Rock also had power in both hands...including the"Suzie Q"
Shavers was KO'd by Quarry....Marciano had the knack of coming up with the big punch when he had to...(Walcott in 1952....Charles in the 2nd fight in 1954...etc)...and he came back to win....Shavers never had that ability...and he would run out of gas....exciting fight while it lasted...Rocky by KO...

Based on what track record? I know that's your end all be all when it comes to Ron Lyle's unformidable power. Maybe he could if they all stuck their chins out for him to hit. But grounded in reality, his KO percentage would be far more align with his record, and astronomically low against ATG fighters... especially those with top-notch chins.

Uh...yeeaaaaaah. Poor Earnie would get his glass jaw thrown into the recycling bin. Rock's chin would hold out..now as for Shavers..well ya know.

Shavers said Quarry broke his jaw in that fight.

Dangerous fight for both men. You have to respect power and you have to respect greatness.

Both had the power but only one has the greatness.

Marciano never beat a top level natural heavyweight. There is nothing great about him except how great a job his delusional fans have done in overvaluing his farce of a padded record

Jersey Joe, Archie, and Ezzard were all well past their prime (Joe and Archie being somewhere from 37-39) natural light heavies who all posed problems for Marciano. Joe and Ezzard both put him in extreme danger of losing his 0

Shavers would be the only true heavyweight that Rocky fought and Rocky would get blasted

You obviously know **** all about the fighters in question. In fact, your post is a bit of a proclamation of ignorance.

I met Earnie a few times in Vegas. He is not a very large man, not even six feet tall. His prime fighting weight was around 205 and it wasn't the most ripped 205 either. Based on size alone, this is hardly an insurmountable advantage.

This is an easy one: Marciano puts Shavers to sleep.

Someone here said that Quarry's first round annihilation of Shavers was a fluke. No way. Shavers, like Lyle and Mac Foster, were made to order for Jerry. It was obvious during the instructions in the ring for that fight that Jerry was certain that Shavers was going down. Quarry stooped him in half a round and broke Shavers' jaw as well. It is surprising that any serious boxing fan would even consider Shavers as a threat to Rocky. Marciano by KO.
