Marciano was 5'10' and 188 pounds with a 69 inch reach. Earnie Shavers was 6 foot and 211 pounds with a 79 inch reach. While the physical attributes support Shavers I see Marciano winning this. Marciano worked behind tremendous pressure and an engine that had a damn near limitless gas tank. Marciano was also tough as hell. Earnie Shavers worked behind the jab and one of the hardest rights boxing has seen, however if he couldn't knock you out, he would gas out. After knocking Larry Holmes down Shavers started throwing wild, ineffectual punches and allowed Larry to get back into the fight. Marciano probably tastes the canvas, but like Holmes, gets back up and wins comfortably by wearing Shavers down. Marciano, KO9.
Shavers has the power to KO him but he'd have to land clean and flush. Marciano was not all that easy to tag. I'd say Shavers could do it but more likely to my mind is that he gasses down the line and Rocky just outworks him. What's working against Shavers is that he was not all that fast despite his big punch.
Back and fourth on this. At the end of the day, I think Rocky’s superior durability, endurance, and defense get him through but he could very well go to sleep himself.
I like Rocky in this. Early. He uses those great legs to get under and dips low so Earnie swings and misses with his big shot. And when Earnie launched that big shot he was off balance for a combo or anything and had to re-set himself. Way way too big of an opening to be giving a guy like Marciano--who won't be throwing jabs.
Would be a fun fight, but I believe Rocky could handle the power of Shavers much easier than Shavers could handle the power of Rocky. Shavers was known to gas out too. Marciano knocks him out anywhere from 1-7
Shavers had his butt kicked by Jerry Quarry in the 1st round....Marciano was an all time warrior...the only time Marciano goes to sleep is when he's in bed...be real!!!
Rocky would get the shocker of his life with the first serious punch Shavers lands. The acorn had a good 20+ lbs over him of solid muscle from farmwork, manual labor in factories, chopping wood, etc and was one of the best at getting leverage into his shots. The question is if he could land flush on an awkward smaller target like Rocky whose constantly boaring in, and if he could capitalize after hurting him or knocking him down. I'm betting he can't. Shavers let several potential wins slip through his grasp due to either sloppy finishing attempts, or failing to pace himself and getting himself stopped due to exhaustion. I think back to his fights with Lyle (which was a very winnable fight and roughly even for most rounds) or more crucially Holmes where Shavers could've won the title. He still lost even after severely hurting them. However, sometimes Shavers surprised you showing incredible resilience in the Williams fight getting a last second late round KO after taking a beating, or the time he just went for broke and sparked out Norton in 1 round. But then you remember Quarry doing the oppsosite blitzing Shavers and hurting him early before he could warm up. In other words, Shavers was a total wild card and inconsistent. Safest bet is that the Rock survives an early scare or gets dropped 1-2x but weathers the storm and breaks Shavers down within 4-5. Doesn't hit as hard, but he's way more reliable in durability, stamina, and finishing ability. Rocky wasn't super talented, but he was always in shape and consistent no matter the opponent unlike Shavers.
shavers had great chin but marciano would batter him sooner or later, he'd get to him by the 10th Добра профилна слика хаха
